An interesting anecdote backing Stig's astute observation?
The practice of pollarding's roots in feeding farm animals throughout European history pretty much documents that pollarded trees on estates outlived their natural forest brethren.
I still find natural forests far more appealing...
I'm more of a naturalist, and view bonsai as a bit tortuous at best, more a product of control freaks.
Kinda like crew cuts for the military.......
