Nice look stuff! Question though, why not just use the lanyard as is? It looks to be in good shape.

It is about 6' long when retracted and weighs about 15 lbs. So yes, butt on the ground for most cuts. This actually works fairly well after lifting it and hooking the cut location. Like I said earlier, judging how many extensions you will need is important as it will increase maneuverability...

Yup. They are called hot sticks, come in several different configurations and are made by Hastings.

Yes, and no, respectively. It is a big ass stick and 40 feet is a long ways up! But it can reach some very hard to reach things, that is for sure. Fortunately, you only need to use the number of extensions needed for the job at hand as you can slip the extras off the bottom.

The Hobbs lowering device also had a plate attachment option that fit into a saw kerf cut. It did a fantastic job of stabilizing the bollard. No real down side, it just worked.

Great find, Jonny! I'll be interested in how you like it when compared to the Treemotion.

I've had my DMM Geckos for about two years, no problems with the top pads. Hated the bottom straps, so changed them to the Buck Velcro. Best spurs I've ever had. Wish I'd gotten them years ago. I did move the top Velcro slightly as it had a slight pucker in it when wrapped around my legs...

Nice spurs, Sean! You might want to consider getting the Velcro lower straps, they are super comfortable. I punched holes through the back pad and used heavy duty cable ties to attach tool carriers. The rope goes over that but doesn't carry the load. But the Shembiner has some pretty sharp...

Long lanyards made with 10mm or 11mm lines are great. It matters less, what size tree you are working on, and more on what needs to be done and what you have to work with.

I have not tried a rope-walker while using spurs as it always seemed a bit redundant. As long as I'm using my leg muscles to gain altitude I'm happy. I love SRS on removals though, for its ability to choke a stem or limb and not needing a crotch to make that work.

Nice find, Jonny! I will be interested in what you think of it. Are you a hard core SRS convert or do you just use it occasionally?

I have been using the Silky Ibuki 390 blade on my pole saw for over a year now and it seems to be a good balance of strength and weight.

That would be sweet! We had one for a short while and they are heavy. As I got it for my wife and it was a grunt for her to drag across a soft grass lawn empty let alone with a load, we wound up giving it to another tree company that had a full-sized ground crew.
