Yes it is, but it was Paul's choice.

Like others have said, if the HH is not tending well it is not setup as well as it could be. But I still use a pulley under mine because it tends even better and gives me no trouble otherwise. There is nothing wrong with belay tools that bend the rope as a means of friction control, it is how...

Any Rope Wrench or Hitch Hiker users here?

Nope. The HH has other pluses besides just its compactness, nothing around or above the hitch, nothing to engage or set when coming to a stop after an ascent, no additional drag on a limb walk and it does not bend the rope to achieve its frictional component. That last one is a big deal. The HH...

Boy, that is the truth, Burnham, and not that long ago either as Kevin said. Fine-tuning consisted of making sure your hitch held and maybe loosening it a bit before a big swing or fast descent. Much simpler then but much, much better now.

Just a thought. Make sure both the hitch and the HH are fully releasing. With the pulley to smoothly redirect tailing force that is really the only thing left. Look at how your hitch knots are tied compared to mine. Might be nothing but, sometimes it is the little things.

Haha! Funny that, but you actually did hit upon a truth. Even though these setups are for a non-moving rope system, the components themselves move, interact and each and every component will make a difference. Mine works perfectly, exactly as shown, for my weight and climbing style. Just like...

Could be something better coming, but for now this setup will match the slack tending of the RW while having all the HH benefits.

Bermy, have you tried the Atlas 370 nitrile? It is what we use and they come in small which is the size Sylvia uses. Moderately good grip and excellent dexterity.

Sean, the pulley is a Petzl Fixe with the side plates pressed together enough that it snaps onto the ring. Don't skip that part. I'm not positive on the DMM ring, I think it's a 34mm but it might be a 28mm. I will try to remember to check it tomorrow. It will take some getting used to but...

The RW uses a pulley in its setup. Without a pulley the HH can tend slack very well but can't quite match the smoothness of the RW. However, add a pulley to the HH and it will not only match the smoothness of the RW it can surpass it. That is of course assuming you have your rope/hitch...

I take mine off between each tree, always. Even with my pulley setup it is easy and fast. Other than setting the hitch, by working it hard a couple of times before my next climb, I do not need to mess with knot adjustment. I just tie it the same way as I had it and it works fine. The...

The performance of hitch cord degrades faster than it actually wears out. I find it is always a treat breaking in new hitch cords. If you like the smaller cords, as I do, you might want to give 8mm Armor-Prus or 9mm ArbPro a try. They sure slide through the holes in the dogbone easily...

Yes! It does, however, require that you be more attentive on how the carabiner lines up in the HH. Most carabiner tethers also worked as corner traps that helped keep everything in line. Still worth it in my opinion.

This is the way to properly set the short HH hitch. When I first tie mine it will barely move on the climbing line but then I load it hard by bouncing on it a few times, taking up slack and doing it again. This not only tests my suspension point it stabilizes the hitch so it needs no further...

When the HH hitch is set right, it should slide up the rope with just a relatively small amount of tail weight. With it clipped into a chest harness you should not have to touch it, just climb.

http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/srt-single-rope-technique/88704-gear-less-tail-less-retreivable-redirect.html Tim, check out this video and discussion. Though Dan is using it for a different purpose, this is the type of knot I was referring to, not a stopper knot. You would use this or something...

Hahaha! Well it is true that most of what is in my mind is no longer fresh! :) But because I am my own boss I will often take the time to play with my many tools, switching between trees, just to remind me of what each has to offer. Still like what the HH brings to the table best. About...

Tim, I fall into that category too. I own and have climbed on all those and a few more that you didn't mention like the Unicender and Petzl Rig. Climbers are incredibly lucky to have so many great SRWP tool's available that they can get to choose which one they like the best. For me, hands...

I still use the HH hitch because I have not found anything else that works as well for me. But, don't be afraid to experiment. Because the HH is a hitch based tool, it's performance is a direct reflection of how the hitch and climbing line work together. Understand, that with the proper...

Sean, did you do anything with the pulley to make it easier to take on and off?
