Thanks, I really like the RW to. For me the RR worked perfect in every way right out of the box. I didn't have to fidget with anything like the HH or RW. It tended flawlessly, always grabbed and released predictably. Well.. that's just plain Boring. Were is the fun in that ? I like to fidget...

Cool! Sounds like you're getting along good with the RW, take some pics the next time you're up there. Slings work good for that " should have worn my spurs " situation. I always carry several yates loop runners, they don't take up any space and there also 24 Kn rated.

Are you talking about the pin on the RW itself ? Is there some reason to remove it completely, I don't think I have ever removed it even for 1/2" ropes.

I Wonder if they would make a custom length ? If so I would run a shorter hitch and get no longer than an 8" model. My home made one measures 7 " from the RW eye to the center hole of the HC pulley and its just perfect for me. Almost as compact as the HH.

Its a little piece of rubber tubing, fuel hose works good. Just don't forget to slip it over the hitch cord ( assuming using hitch cord ) before you put it all together like I usually do. Or you can just cut it down the middle stick it on and tape it all together. I usually end up trimming the...

Any Rope Wrench or Hitch Hiker users here?

"You know how they always warn climbers against grabbing at the rope above the hitch, or words to that effect?" I assume you mean accidently grabbing the hitch when you meant to grab the rope above the hitch? It would be real hard to climb if you couldn't grab the rope above the hitch. As far...

"Nope. The HH has other pluses besides just its compactness, nothing around or above the hitch, nothing to engage or set when coming to a stop after an ascent, no additional drag on a limb walk and it does not bend the rope to achieve its frictional component. That last one is a big deal. The HH...

"The whole slack tending thing is the most overrated hooey I ever hear. The HH tends just fine if you have it set up right. " Yep, It took me forever to figure out the HH compared to other devices. Must say I was having my doubts for a while But once I found the right combo it works great and...

I'm with you on the HH. But the only advantage the HH has over the RW is size, RW pretty much kicks ass in all other department Imho.

I would make your own tether, or I guess you could have treestuff custom make one. Make it as short as you can get by with. The longer the tether the harder it is to make it stiff enough also just gets in the way.

Just a little shackle and pin I made out of SS. Fits in the top hole of the HC pulley nice and snug. The hitchcord knot pushes against a washer I welded to the pin and holds it together for now. just used some hitch cord and taped it up for a tether.

Got bored , made an even shorter 6" tether with a quick attach for the RW. I used it for half the day on a small removal and it worked great. think I'll try 5". Sure makes a world of dif from the 12" tether I started out with. Might get this thing down to HH size (subcompact RW!).

Thanks All, finally got the HH dialed in With all the tinkering and finding the right rope/hitch combo. Slack tends like a dream now even without the pulley (thank god).I Guess the rope wrench is getting reassigned to rigging wrench. Although theres still something about the RW, kind of like...

HH hitch not working the way you want. Put a twist or two in the legs and then tape the tails together. I keep a role of electrical tape on my caritool, makes a good bump stop for climbing saw and I like to tape stuff.

My HH had some rough areas and tool marks on the top of the body were the hitch cord contacts. I did a quick ,sand smooth, bevel and polish What I would call the transition area were the hitch cord slides down as you pull the rope from below when slack tending. Used it for several hours today...
