Let's let this rest for a bit, Ty. I'll get back to your question, if you'll allow me.

I have to ask myself how in the hell Daniel Murphy would have the knowledge to be able to report with his unfounded authority..."It's clear that Dent changed his teachings on techniques such as the swing Dutchman becasue it was too "unreliabel to teach" ? His spelling seems to be almost as...

Since the thrust of this thread originally was to be sharing what taking a falling certification class from Doug Dent was like...I am wondering just what it would have been like to watch the interactions of Daniel Murphy and Doug Dent, should Daniel have landed in one of Doug's classes. I...

In my experience, topping good-sized tops in conifers, to minimize the push back as the top goes over and thus minimize the back and forth motion of the stem you're riding, setting a narrower face than normal is expeditious. The reason is pretty obvious...if the topped section closes it's face...

Yessir, GF Beranek needs Daniel Murphy to clarify stumpshot usage for him...yup, sure does :|:. You are a true gentleman, Jer.

Mine echoes Doug Dent's...not too surprising, that :).

T, your definition of stump shot and mine appear to be radically different. Do you mind describing what you mean when you use that term, please? I'll reciprocate with mine after.

Glad you found some of those threads, Mr. T Collins. Warm welcome to the Tree House, sir. If you find Mr. Daniel Murphy a bit trying, I suggest ignoring him. After several varying paths of interaction, and not, I have found ignoring is the most pleasant. On the other hand, if you find value...

Thanks, Pete...good to know. Tommy, how about a little contribution to the TreeHouse instead? Otherwise, no worries.

Any sign of that package yet, Tommy? Been a couple of weeks. I checked my receipt more closely, and find that with international mail, the US Postal Service not only doesn't track outside US borders, it doesn't inside either. That sucks, I'm sorry to report. Hopefully it will arrive.

Okie dokie, Tommy. Finally braved the trip in to the post office and got that book headed your way. They couldn't say how long it would take after it leaves the US. But if it doesn't show up in 10 days or 2 weeks, let me know and I'll get the tracking going.

"If you ain't never run aground, you ain't never sailed much of anywhere". Quote from an old sailing buddy of mine from waaaay back. Gads, we had some high times when we were young ;). "just qualifying mistakes"...I think we all have some of those :D.

You are correct...at least so far as teaching it. I expect he might well have still used it himself under circumstances that seemed appropriate to him, but not as a method to advocate. Read from this old thread here, Chris...

We called him "Doug"...that was his preference. If you were a youngster new to his classes, it sometimes came up..."Uh, Mister Dent...? Answer, more or less a quote..."Don't act like a blankity blank piece of blank...I'm a man just the same as you. Treat me same as you would any other man"...

Bump! Well guess what, Tommy...today I found my stash of Doug Dent's Professional Timber Falling, A Procedural Approach. It was hiding in my old FS briefcase with a bunch of sawyer and climbing instructor stuff I'd tossed in the back of a closet in 2014 :). I promised you one, back in Oct. of...
