Whipping might be considered sacrificial. Just tucked and pulled down underneath the wraps is a solid finish. If it gets ragged or loose, just redo it. Mostly, it'll last a long time. Those thimbles are galvanized, yes? I think you might find they are not as smooth as could be desired and...

Looks good...but I'd bet the stretchy suspender straps give out real quick. The throwline is far more abrasive than the elastic can handle. Put some sort of smooth metal loop in between, maybe?

Back in the heavy logging days, say 1945 to 1995, that sort of work was an every day thing in hundreds of logging gear/chainsaw shops all along the Cascade mountain chain, both west and east sides, from northern California to British Columbia. Days long gone now. Hard to find a shop still...
