I do my own too with relatively good success . As far as a clam shell about the best you can do is some exhaust work .On that I've got a clam shell 70 cc Mac that cranks on at over 15,000 but you really wouldn't care to use it as a work saw .It's just a big kids' toy .:)

Even with a 36" it gets to be a chore .That heavy pot licker in my avatar is not a walk in the park .
