    I've used them for years and will still have trouble picking up a pea or a single noodle. :X It's not proper etiquette to stab things, possibly other than unwanted intruders.

    Tonkin cane is what the bamboo fly rod makers seem to prefer. Thick walled and very tough apparently, with minimal defects due to bugs. Pretty much out of groves in one part of China, but I believe growable in some areas of the US.

    Gary, has the black stuff spread at all? By the way, if you use the bamboo, rubbing it out with fine steel wool, the kind used in woodworking, then a light oil finish makes for a pretty shine and softens up the feel a bit.
