HitchHiker: DRT Switch and Basic Use

This is Jamies system: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/r4Y5mE4WmxE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The only thing I do differently is I use my lanyard over the shoulder to advance the HH, not a tether from the upper ascender. I use 7 wraps with 8mm...

The tighter the better at first. Sacrifice the tending smoothness for the reliable grip then dial it back slowly from there! Definitely give Jamies ascent system a try to!

HitchHiker: DRT Switch and Basic Use

Randy, Luke and I are working on a viable tether, the one he sent me had some issues though. I still favor the original one I made out of 5mm cord and electrical tape. The tape is ideal to me because it stretches allowing you to make the eyes tighter and then it grips the biner. Thanks for...

Tree yes, everywhere yes. Must have for non helmet use.

I think 32 gb is plenty. That is the max of the battery life pretty much @ 1080 res. I suggest getting a medium sized gorilla pod or similar twisty tripod.

You can probably still get one floor $100... but not for long.. the new version is 2 or 300

HitchHiker: DRT Switch and Basic Use

I advance the sharp end/tail through a crotch, tie a slip knot above my HH (so it doesnt just sit there and run) and then yank it through with the tail trying not to hit myself in the face. I havent gotten into retrievable hardware based redirects yet.

HitchHiker: DRT Switch and Basic Use

My 7mm retrieval line works great, with no redirects, which if you plan ahead isnt usually a problem. Generally on really tall trees, especially where you life, they are conifers so you can make sure your retrieval line and climb line follow the same path.

HitchHiker: DRT Switch and Basic Use

The setup you are describing is the same as the Rr trick IF there are no redirects. With even one redirect you will have a near impossible time retrieving with a RB, while with a Rr Trick it is akin to pulling out a base tie. I use a base tie unless I am doing a removal or have someone else in...

In Cary's photo, what is the accessory biner attached to?

HitchHiker: DRT Switch and Basic Use

Essentially you set a ring and ring (Rr) friction saver as normal. When you pull up your climbing line, after it has gone through the rings you pull through enough rope untill you have enough left on the ground that will make it the top. Tie an alpine butterfly on the small ring side, clip a...

HitchHiker: DRT Switch and Basic Use

I only use a canopy tie for when there is another climber in the tree. I make sure to either preset my retrieval line where I intend to descend or go down the way I came up.

HitchHiker: DRT Switch and Basic Use

I have a 90' 7mm cord that I use for that...Beware though. You cannot pull it out with redirects (you might be able to but its f'in miserable). The climbing line and retrieval line have to run together.

HitchHiker: DRT Switch and Basic Use

I still work most removals DRT to, But if I throw into the tree first I will SRT ascent up to a choked TIP and then make the switch just like its shown in the video. If you arent climbing the rope but have a choked TIP above you can put some weight on the line or have a groundie hold the line as...

Matt, I have a Unicender but not a RopeWrench. I am getting a ropewrench to try (I havent yet so there is some ignorance in my comments) as well as a spiderjack and am going to attempt a 'buying guide' video featuring the pros and cons of all of them. Price: The HH and RW are about the same...
