The hot as you can stand water treatment works to stop poison oak itching too, at least for a few hours.

I want to get one of those epi pens. My opthamologist friend says by prescription and they are expensive....and don't give yourself a shot if you don't need it. Apparently your heart can start racing.

    Wasp stings

I regularly see farmers spraying their apple orchards from the seat of those weenermobiles. The state of the art in self protection seems to be a rubber slicker and a paper mask for the more intelligent ones.

    Wasp stings

Seems like a good sprayer with a pesticide might eliminate those wasps pretty quickly, unless you are afraid of a little poison rain.

Are you guys familiar with these mosquito coils, are they available? Been around for ages. You light one end and they slow burn for hours, putting out a light smoke that repels mosquitos. Generally, people use it in their homes during the summer. I was in this work supply place and saw a...

    Wasp stings

I carry one of these. Used it once so far but still got swelling. You have to be quick before the poison spreads out. Maybe it was ineffective, or kept me from dying, there is no way to tell.

A friend of mine is an urushi artist, you know the extract from the poison oak type plant that gets used for finishing.. His old Labrador got into a bucket of the thick stuff and lapped it up. It's lips and tongue got huge and the dog was in obvious discomfort for a number of days. Similar...

    Wasp stings

The wasps I hate most are the ones that will jab you repeatedly. Two or three times before you can react. Vicious attacks. By then their buddies might soon be on the way too. Two jabs and my elbow was almost as big as a softball.

    Wasp stings

I hate when the first big one flies into the shop for the season. It means three or four months of having to watch out. A good shot with carb cleaner will knock one out of the air, rather sporting really.

Thanks Kate for the cautionary. The reactions that I have been experiencing of late are pretty rad swelling and almost instantaneous infection, and this last time a little dizziness included. Whether that qualifies as severe I'm not sure, but it is a step or two beyond when previously barely...

    Wasp stings

Some wasps don't actually eat meat, they take it home to feed to their larvae, then the larvae excretes some potion that the wasps relish indulging on.. A potent lotion it is too. It would be like bringing home a t bone steak for your loved ones, then you get to have something really special...

    Wasp stings

I wonder what exactly prompts those critters to sting? They seem to have a certain threshold, where if you go beyond it, then they will let you have it instantly. I've been stung when unknowingly making a sudden movement in their proximity, and when running away a Giant hit me in the middle of...

My brother tells me that yellow jackets are smarter than wasps. He raises bees and says the wasps get caught in his trap and the yellow jackets figure a way out. Better home schooling? On this current job in the woods, I saw a few Giant Asians cruising around, and watched one disappear into...

    Wasp stings

I was stung recently near my knuckle, wrapped my hand around a branch and got the needle through my glove. I didn't see the type of wasp. My reactions to wasp stings have been getting worse, and although within a couple minutes used a poison extractor suction device, my finger then whole hand...
