My neighbor Charlie's go- to mechanical troubleshooter (when Charlie is stumped) have me the transmission guy's number so told me to troubleshoot the check- valve, as above.
He should be able to do it right and locally.
It seems I have a broken check valve for/from (???) the torque converter. If I rev it to 2k for 15 seconds, then idle and shift, then it's good to go.
Sounds like a few hundred to have fixed.
