    How'd it go today?

The price for a true cord of split and cured Douglas fir has gone up by leaps and bounds here in the last few years. What used to cost $175-200 is now $300-350 or even more. I'm glad I can still cut my own.

I'm trying to imagine a scenario like that, Cory. Coming up short. But you may be right.

    How'd it go today?

Not the first thing that Civic has dragged on, obviously. Must be lowered, no?

    Tree felling vids

What a mess. I'm sorry, but who among us would have cut that tree without moving those vehicles?

Well, do that soonest. Any foreign material that gets in there will to some degree or another contaminate the fibers, and you will lose some of the chain-jamming capabilities and the speed that happens.

Looks like you're due for a new pair of chaps, @davidwyby. It is a well-researched fact that a second saw cut to a pair of cut-proofs or chaps has a 78.6318% chance of hitting the same spot as the first cut. :D But more seriously, think on it, brother.

Hey, John...that looks sorta like the process you went through on your wtf tree. :D BTW, it looks good with the lamp.

Well done, Austin. I hope you have as much fun in retirement as I have done and continue to do.

Constantly have to tighten chain - chain itself the likely culprit?

No, but then I've never been tempted to buy one. I'm pretty indoctrinated to Stihl saws at this point in my life; and I have used and owned only pro models. I'm just being a snob, and keeping my reputation as a curmudgeon intact :).

Constantly have to tighten chain - chain itself the likely culprit?

It's an Echo. Oh...I said that in another thread too. My bad... :D

    How'd it go today?

If one doesn't know one's neighbors out here in the hinterlands, one is missing out on a lot of potential help. I don't own a tractor with a bucket, but two neighbors do, and I have benefited from good relations with both of them when I needed. If the need to call in a Life Flight occurs...

    How'd it go today?

I used to be really persnickety about what firewood I went after; putting in the time and effort to locate on the NF, cut, split, haul, stack, finish split, etc. Almost without exception, old growth Douglas fir. Now retired, I find myself using almost anything handy...from our property, even...

    Official Random Fact/Random Thought Thread!

I get the sentiment, but the idea of persistent advertising on my table is off-putting. My rather formal mother, gone 10 years now, would roll in her grave at the idea of putting a jar with a label on it on her table :).

    Drying eucalyptus

Because it looks like rotten wood, that no self-respecting craftsperson would consider using for anything that is designed to be beautiful and long-lasting. Of course, this is just my entirely subjective view. YMMV. But it is one I hold most fervently, obviously. :D
