    Sewn vs spliced eyes

Well, it's not like you would be breaking the bank to give one a try and see if your concerns hold water. For me, buying premade eye2eye hitch cords has never appealed because I prefer to be able to adjust ad infinitum to the best length for my use. I suppose if you are splicing your own, you...

    Sewn vs spliced eyes

There is one other salient point in the question of which to pick...that being with the stitched eye, just like a tied eye, the cordage is of uniform diameter and stiffness right up to the eye. With a splice, you have the bury length towards each eye where neither is the same as the host...

    Sewn vs spliced eyes

That's a good question. My thinking is that the hitch cordage itself would be the wear point just as it is with a spliced item. In other words, the cord would be done long before the stitching would have any wear to concern us. It also seems in the good number of years these stitched eyes...

If it is at all like mine, sympathies galore my friend. I'm still not well, and it's near three weeks now.

The official "Welcome New Members" thread!

I grew up in your part of the country, Wilson. I know what you mean by the bewildering array of tree species. Learn 25, and you still have 50 more to go! And that doesn't include the hort varieties.

    Bridge lengths

Those look like products that benefit the seller more than the buyer/user... What you have on the MB is fine. It's a good saddle with a solid rep. If it were me, I'd forget about fine tuning the bridge until you have some significant experience upon which to base such. Refined technique will...

    Tree covered in poison ivy

Indeed, he does. Massive plants that make one wonder about what that benign looking little house plant in your living room might become :D.

    Bridge lengths

I'll tell you, my friend...in more than 40 years of professional tree work, I so seldom set an overhead climbline for a spur climb as to make it something less than 5 percent of the time. You work in a very different forest type than I, so there should be caveats :). Gaffing out is a...

    Bridge lengths

I'm with @friedrich...a very short bridge will squeeze you like a toothpaste tube. Long pulls are overrated...especially by short peeps like me :).

    Tree covered in poison ivy

You're most likely a rare exception, Scott. Lucky you. Butch used to swear by taking Oral Ivy as a preventative. I have no idea if it actually works.

    Tree covered in poison ivy

Just say no to that "got to climb" tree :). I would. Me and poison ivy/oak do not play well together.

Paper cuts can be painful for true. Any injury under a fingernail multiplies the discomfort quotient. Happy Christmas, David! :)

Behind the times again! Thanks, Rich. I see Yale also makes a rope they call Poison Moon...same as Blue Moon and the old version of Poison Ivy, apparently...

Outstanding, Rich. Have a fine time. I too really like Yale for my climbing rope...Poison Ivy here, but Blue Moon is same same.
