Mr. Pine Pitch holds me up at 40ft

I just used the seal tight with the ferrules. They make a metal lined and all plastic version. They also make a high flex conduit as well. I believe the treestuff ones may be the high flex versions. Good price if you don't have access to the flex conduit. I tried both all plastic and the metal...

    I couldn't do it...

Thanks for the advice. Every time I look at it, my gut says no... After being in industrial maintenance for the past 30 years safely. I have learned to listen to my instincts. 2 years ago I was one of the first on the scene to a major accident. Really made safety become a priority! I lead a...

    I couldn't do it...

I followed that thread! That was crazy to see you swing away and then it split! This one is about 75 feet tall. Thought about climbing it with spurs and coming top down, but just not sure on how sound it is. I have a poplar about 2 feet diameter that is hollow and up against my house...

    Beginner Tree Climbing Tips

That is a great tip! I got my throwback stuck in a crotch today very similar to that. I tried to pull it back over the unwanted one and it wedged in. I used a 1 1/8" wrench tied to the other end to rethrow! Oh, and a newbie tip for the other newbies... Pick one style locking carabineer and...

    I couldn't do it...

So I got my "skidder" hooked to it to put some tension on it. Even after I made the cuts, we still had to pull it out of the crotch. But it fell exactly where I had aimed! Thatade me feel better about not being able to take the tree down with me in the saddle. This would have been my first...

I have a ash tree and having been getting rid of some dead limbs in. One long branch has crotches in with a poplar tree. Poplar tree has to go! So I get the Poplar tree stripped except the crotch of the Poplar growing in the crotch of the ash. Today I was going to top the Poplar and trim out the...

Mr. Pine Pitch holds me up at 40ft

I have a piece of the flexible conduit that I use for crotches in my trees I do not want damaged. Helps keep the rope clean as well. 3/4" conduit. Rope knot will not pass through. Rope slides very easily inside of it.

SRT to DRT in the tree?

How do you do it? I will be getting the HH2 later this month. I climbed into the tree yesterday SRT with the GriGri2 and switched over to DRT to work. It was a pain. In the butt. After I got my lanyard set, I ended up removing the base anchor and finished up DRT. What is a effective way of...

    Spellfeller's Continuing (Mis)Adventures Aloft

Drop it.... I dropped my new CS355t saw today.... From about 15 feet! After the first cut in the tree I made with, I unclipped the lanyard to put it on a different spot on the saddle. Must not have got it because when I let go of the lanyard....I got to watch the saw bounce! Amazingly nothing...

    Spellfeller's Continuing (Mis)Adventures Aloft

I will mock it up tomorrow and take a few. Awhile back i made a difficult climb, at least for me, and my chain jumped. Sent the saw back down to my son and he took forever to fix it. I was so exhausted, I had to get some kind of mechanical advantage just to finish so I used it then. The stuff...

    Spellfeller's Continuing (Mis)Adventures Aloft

Sounds exhausting! Unfortunately I can relate. I am nocking on 50 and still learning methods to conserve energy. My other side hobby has been fabwork for off-road race trucks and rock bouncers, I have learned on some days to just close the shop doors and come back later. I did rig up a hand...

    No crotch anchor methods?

Hunnicut, What is the other line tied to the tail? Thanks for all the help guys. I have been mapping out my climb and looks like I will be doing a redirect below my main TIP. My existing plan is to use a SRT retrievable redirect that is cinching. Going to try it out on some ground level stuff...
