Sam, Japanese Red Pine, Pinus densiflora. Getting wiped out by the beetles in mass. A little over five tons on the pick which lifted the whole lot in one shot.

It's a trip, people follow you out into the street when you are pulling out, bowing and thanking profusely for dispensing with their tree. "Aw gee, it weren't hardly nothin...." :)

    Drunk driving laws

People can't mind their own restrictions, so they passed a law here where everyone in the vehicle of someone arrested for drunk driving has to pay a hefty fine too. I think like 5000 bucks. Thirty grand for the authorities in one pop isn't unheard of. All kinds of drinking places had to shut...

    Drunk driving laws

Yeah, that's the problem like with about anything else. The people that ruin things for the others with some sense about it. It doesn't have to be seen as such a bad thing really, like Oh God they drank and got into their cars...everybody pull over now! Of course you get the people that think...

Isn't Defiance where young gunslingers tried to make a name for themselves? Undertaking was a prosperous trade.

    Drunk driving laws

Yesterday after a dead Pine removal, my mate and I were driving home, I was following him on some new to me roads. It had been a blistering hot day. He pulls over at this kind of inconspicuous place, gets out and walks back to my truck. I only work with him on occasion. He says, "I like to...

180 Foot Tall by 48" DBH Ponderosa Dismantle

I've worked with and learned from a lot of disciplined people in the land of almighty discipline. In thirty years I've yet to see someone not fulfilling their duties on a job. A place where it isn't uncommon for someone to sacrifice their lives and loved ones for their work...have to live...

The story of Jake reminded me of the Polynesian harpooner, Queequeg, in Melville's "Moby Dick" A very interesting character how he took to his trade. He was the mate that shaved with his harpoon.

    Portable gas wenches?

Brock, that winch has been well discussed here, people get good use from it. I imported one as well. I'm not sure how well it would fit your needs. I have to head off or I'd find the discussions, but it shouldn't be hard to find under portable winches or something like that.

    Habbeger Wire Rope Winches

Half inch might be the same cable on my 1.8 ton Tirfor. I don't think it's hundred feet. It's always a kind of debate, to carry out the cable first thing when packing up, or wait to the end. I can see a five ton being handy for a special need.

Rico, people here are the live and let live types too, and you seem to understand why some folks make comment about not working with PPE. It's been pretty common here to put forth a cautionary about not working with the protection stuff if it's seen happening, but it doesn't much go beyond...

The way I do it is to think to myself that life won't always be hell, and think of the people in the house or hotel in air conditioned conditions, as wimps.
