A greatly experienced climber here was killed by a Zelkova that broke that way after the crane picked it up. Normally you'd think a Zelkova would be less susceptible to breaking at that point, the way the grain knits. Just shows... Glad it went ok for you, Paul. Seems a very good thing to...

    Habbeger Wire Rope Winches

A five ton Tirfor must be a very heavy sucker, and the wire. What diameter wire on that thing? Aside from the weight of the device negative, five tons is a massive pull!

Wearing PPE is a learned skill, just like cuts and how to put brush in a truck to maximize the potential.....almost anything else with tree work. Some of you guys haven't learned yet to take breaks.

180 Foot Tall by 48" DBH Ponderosa Dismantle

What's wrong with cutting up your hinge close if you've got favorable lean and the top going over the way you want? The reasoning seemed good to me, minimize push back on the spar. I've thought of it as a given for the most part.

    Damaged Chain?

For awhile someone was giving me chains from a rental place, they throw on a new one after every return, never bother to sharpen up a chain and use it again. Seldom were they ever bent up, but I don't think I ever received one that wasn't seriously rocked bad. Pretty amazing how folks use...

That's a rational like saying that the cops should only go after serial mass murderers, let the individual homicides all get thrown in and sit without effort in the unsolved cold cases bin. Cool vid, Stephen, liked the selfie too.

    Damaged Chain?

I had a good friend like that, just like Jason, named Flint, but with shocking red hair. Never forget what my mom said to me when she first laid eyes on him at our front door. He repairs gas pumps in Arizona now.

Jason sounds like the kind of kid parents don't want their child to play with. Y'know, the ones that are the most fun.

    Damaged Chain?

LOL on over the cliff. The only time I've ever thrown a saw more than a foot or so, was when it was on fire. Yeah dumb, but I thought it might blow up. The next time I just doused it with dirt. :D

    Damaged Chain?

You don't even have to do anything to be stupid with a saw, just let them sit.

    Damaged Chain?

Filing the burrs can be a frig this. I like to touch them to the grinder at the shop if it isn't necessary to run them off on the bar in the field.
