Depends on the wood and how much air you give it . A roaring fire produces very little creosote build up .
Green cut ash,if you could find a live tree in the eastern portion of the US will burn green .Fresh cut oak you'd have a chore even getting it going .
I'm thinking about Burnams two cords as oppossed to my 4 or 5 on any given year .There must be something in the Pacific ocean we don't have in the great lakes .Heat evidently .
For all intents we really don't have soft woods in this area .Cotton wood and basewood are soft but they are considered hard woods .Lousey firewood too but it burns .
Ash dries out fast .You probabley won't even need a fan .Oak BTW will probabley never dry out if it isn't split .Maple if it isn't split and kept under cover will grow mushrooms in about a year .
For my own use I have enough split and stacked to make it through this winter .Plus enough cut but not split to make it through next .
I won't be burning as much this winter because with Dar gone nobody to stoke the fire while I'm at work .I can bank it enough it will still be burning the...
They don't do that much raking .He's got several hand held Stihl blowers and a BR 420 back pack .
With a little practice on a mown lawn you can windrow saw chips pretty well .I've done it myself .
Well they did fairly well all considered .Looks to be about 5 cords split .I helped a tad and got sawdust in my ear so to speak cutting down out of a pile to length .First I'd ran a saw in probabley 6 months .There's at least twice again that much left.
I think after all my time of saying it...
Speaking of firewood I just got a call from Tom .It seems he and crew are going to attack that 12-15 cords of oak setting in my woods today .In one day they'll never get it all split even with two splitters .
Although a couple years ago myself and one helper got around 6 in one day but it was...
I could square stack it 8 feet tall if I could reach it .These old 66 shoulders however are not like they used to be .Father time gets all some time or another --sucks .:(
Well I told Tom that fact also but he's hard headed .You get down to the bottom and it's about half rotten after a time .Probabley not a big deal if you are growing mushrooms not so good for firewood .
I've always racked it and stacked it on old pallets.Tom just throws it in a big heap .
The heap probabley works as well if you use it up before the bottom of the heap gets all funky .
See the diff .Here in the heart land we shun away from anything considered of the pine family .Of course we have no native pines on this side of the state .Nothing but hardwoods .
Couple years ago Tom had some southern yellow pine which I was just going to use for camp firewood .My Lawd that...
Mountains out of mole hills .If you just rack it up on pallets or something it'll dry just fine .Now you gotta spit it especially oak or it will never dry completely .Maple if you dilly dally around and don't split it the damned stuff will grow mushrooms .The west coast stuff I haven't a clue .
