I have two on a clip on my harness all the time, one shorter than the other...absolutely invaluable for a quick foothold, or to girth hitch a branch or palm frond that I don't want to drop free.
I was trying out a pair of 'Gill' branded grippy gloves last week, got them from the local marine store for about $8...the rubber started to come off on the second day, bits of it kept getting stuck between my hitch and the rope...yeah, came to a complete stop several times, had to foot ascender...
Sgriff...early days but I have about 4hrs on the new combo, enough time for it all to stretch and settle, so far the tending and hitch 'catching' remains really good. Coming down from a reasonable height requires a bit more attention to the hitch, it can get a wee bit tight on the way down.
If...
I just switched out the original beeline I got with my HH for a new piece of hitch cord.
The only cord I could get locally was 8mm beeline..I tell you, paired up on my Tachyon it is WAY better than the 10mm, tending and grabbing is much better.
So there you have it
I've watched and listened and read along with lots of the stuff about the RW, and the new RR and BDB, here and on facebook...honestly, I don't think I'll change. The only one to me that looks tempting to try is the BDB...bu tin the back of my mind I really like that the HH is a COMBINATION of...
That would drive me bonkers having that around my neck!
Who's seen the guy on facebook using a dog chest collar/harness? Went to his local pet shop and tried them on, looks just about perfect!
I had the pulley, not cinched though...I suppose with my upcoming time off I could experiment.
I was out there again yesterday, two more oaks...they are so much fun to climb, branches everywhere, nice and sturdy, me likey!
Ok, so I have a HUGE spreading oak tree to work on, put the first climb into it yesterday.
Lately I have been using a pulley below my HH, but with all the unclipping and reclipping to pass around branches and such I went back to my original bent gate biner on the bridge ring. So much easier for...
For the 3:1, use a revolver carabiner under the basic, with the little pulley built in to it, it takes out enough friction to work.
As for your friction hitch, are you using the supplied beeline? It might take a few climbs just to get it broken in. Experiment with how many wraps you have as...
It took a few climbs SRT to realizes that the technique is quite different from the more body thrust type we were used to before...a few nights of aching muscles and you realize something's got to change!
SRT is a much more upright technique, and involves the legs much more.
I don't quite get the picture of that Dave...my knee ascender is clipped into a maillon on my waist belt, the tether on the HH is clipped into my chest sling...
When I get up to my working height I usually ditch the knee ascender and work the tree, if I have to go up again it do 'sit/stand'...
I noticed today that if my homemade tether on the HH isn't pulling exactly symmetrical on either side of the HH (i.e. the tether eyes have BOTH to be snug up against the side of the HH) it just is a fight to move the lot up when attached to my chest clip.
One eye is a little slack and it slips...
Thanks Kevin, but still, does the RW get bumped and rubbed and bashed when hard up against a branch and trying to get up and past?
It happens to me with my HH, and it just goes through my mind wondering how I'd fare if I had the RW.
Purely a hypothetical wonderment...one of those things that...
