How busy are you this year compared to other years?

Not running out of work. Steady simmer. I've got a guy I know asking to work for me. He's got his own fledgling biz.

It's been going. Not much use out of it this summer and fall. Lots of pruning, no clean-up. Ready when needed...8xx hours on it, 11 years old.

Yep, these dead maple were definitely leaning toward the house and shed. Homeowner cleanup. Kept everything in the woods. A large widowmaker over the apple trees flipped over with the trunk.. no damage to the apples. I roughed up a few trees in the woods a bit. No problem...a few broken fir...

    How'd it go today?

I suspect much less smoke and particulate matter, too.

    How'd it go today?

Pulled 4 dead, crusty maple away from their lean/ a house. No clean up. Another bigger maple to Put on Ground Only, along with a half- failed willow and a big cherry prune. Sequential because of sprawling limbs. Cool and dry...zero sweat. Miniloader and throw line-placed pull ropes...

Especially hard-leaners being chunked back, removing so much weight that was bending the trunk, one must avoid the Circle Of Death by using bridge Ds or bridge connection instead of hip D, good cuts, cuts just above forks, and sometimes binding. A chain loop with a grab-hook, tightened with...

    How'd it go today?

First day back to written in 2.5 weeks. Killed two firs way too close to the house to keep , and pruned a large Japanese maple away from the house and cleared thick grape vines grown into the tree while the house was vacant. Homeowner cleanup! Helped a friend with a yard renovation ...

    Understanding wood fiber -theory.

I've recently found that whizzy/ sizwheels help steer some hard-to-steer branches-- doug-fir.

In guessing that's a thick hinge, pulled hard, giving lots of fiber pull. Triple hinge/ whizzy might work enough without such fiber pull. Maybe not!

How much barberchairing do you run into? Only a few species here, aside from loaded trees (e.g. felling a support tree holding a tipped tree) want to BC. Thick hinge... lots of fiber pull. Undesireable for butt logs at the mill...$ deduction, to my understanding. If I'm trying to hold a...

    Understanding wood fiber -theory.

The pith is, from my armchair, the worst to have within/ right near the hinge. Bigleaf maples can be heard crack and pop very audibly at a significant distance. My guess is that happens as I approach the pith. I can feel and hear it pop over the gas saw. When chunking short (~6-10') qmaple...

I missed a change in direction from BC-propensity to back leaners. Working on a small screen and two weeks of being very tired.
