The Humboldt is primarily for speed of production

Trees have a lot of flare, and flutes. Have to make higher stumps to get out of it. Like real high.

Take it in two pieces if you can. Fold it in half with a wide face, then again at the union. Leave room to flush your cut and still be outside the branch collar. Also, never leave such stubs level, always give an angle so it sheds as much water and snow as possible.

    Borer battle - habitat trees?

I don't mind leaving habitat, but those trees are at risk of smashing stuff, not worth the problems down the road.

Pros and Cos of various friction hitches in the trees

I do have a foot ascender . I think it's a CMI . I used to do all my climbing in my corks (Viberg 105T ) then in my White Smoke Jumpers . Now I wear Scarpa Fuego's a Lot . Loaded hard , = all my weight on the hitch plus lifting something heavy like a big cut off limb to movebit around the tree to drop it in a good drop zone .

Thank you all very much for your replies . When I get some 8 mm hitch cord I will experiment with a VT and other hitch on my HH . For spruce removals , My main climbing work that I do in the area I live . I choke the tree with my climbing line with a running bowline then to my HH . These...

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

They would be doing that around me if the ground wasn't saturated. Orchards are being rutted up getting through with sprayers. It just starts to dry up and we get another inch or two.

    Leaners

Good question. My neighbor has two pine trees whose lower branches extend into the drop zone. They are small flexible branches and a log might be able to push them out if it’s way in its fall. I might even be able to put ropes on them and tie them back away. As my branch gets shorter it will no...

Thanks! Most of the tree was picked butt heavy and vertical but two were picked horizontally. It’s a little deceptive from my pics but they were plenty butt heavy.
