Dad's been working on a downed oak...asked me to get his 371xp started. Hell no, not gonna happen. He's 82, has no business touching a saw that big. Went and cut it up myself, 4 logs he can haul out with the tractor. Had 2 standing dead ash at the south woods l also went and cut. 1st one, l was...

Back at the firewood game. 24"+ red oak. Forked tree, lost one side last year. Broke out the 046dual port, 24" bar, full skip chisel chain. Needed every inch of the bar. Ed

Women with firepits...sorry but its like a slow death...."Karly will be here tomorrow, needs wood for the firepit!" Soooo 8:00 pm yours truly is woods bound at 86° with skeeter spray, ms200t and an attitude to go find dry ass pencil wood. Wtf? Ed

Firewood is sold by the face cord here, 16"x4'x8'. Fewer guys selling every year, good market out there. Ed

Had a an omen today in the woods. Small group of quaking aspen close to my main landing. 7-8 trees left, 2 have already fell, 6 to 12" dbh. Several dead, others not far behind. Plan was to drop all of them this past winter, didn't get there. Had some good wind last week, 1 1/4" of rain, wet...

Not legal here....the dnr has tried several times to get a season. Keeps getting shot down (pun intended). Ed

I think its one of those things one learns by doing. Pretty labor intense process to generate the final product and make a profit. Case in point: local farm, (very good at thinking "outside the box") decided to get into sunflowers and sell bird feed. Created their own brand, bought bags and...

Sycamore is not a widespread tree here, 99% l've seen growing naturally are along the local river. Ed

45 today, 40 tomorrow, dad's damn near out of wood. Time to kick ass. 14 logs blocked up and 2 Ranger loads split. There will be 4 of us splitting tomorrow, we'll get dad stocked up. Ed

How plans change....was going to block logs then split, until the forecast for a big arse snow "event" started. No way did I want a big pile of wood buried in snow and frozen together (rain before snow). Dad has plenty of wood, so l said screw it, just leave the logs piled. The weather reports...

Warmed up a little today, mid 20's, warmer yet mon & tues. Figured l would go grab a few more logs then cut them up tomorrow and split tues before more white crap on wed & thurs. Managed to get 6 more logs pulled out. Good skidding with 3" of snow on the ground. Ed

More common than one would think....horse throws a shoe in the field, farmer hangs it over a small branch. Decades later, its invisible, quietly waiting for an unlucky woodcutter to hit it with a chainsaw. Ed

Marc nailed it 100%. I almost ruined an unreplacable atv carb by leaving etanol lace fuel in it. Ed

Ethanol is pure hell on rubber that wasn't fornulated to resist it.... Ed

As a rule l don't cut many live trees either. With my dead Ash supply getting depleted, l'll be starting on "weeping Marys". You know...the 14" hardwood that comes out of the ground 15' in the woods and grows at a 30° angle out into the field. Ya, fun times await, eh? OTOH, dad is 83, he still...

Roger was in today and took out the hickory....didn't call, lost my number. He had a helper and saw. Cut the stump off, cut the butt log and set it aside. He evidentally didn't like my woodline. Ripped out 2 leaners and "trimmed" a bunch of low weeping branches with the track hoe too. Lol...

Now I'm wondering if there is a millable log hiding in there. Helped a friend do a Hickory kitchen, end result was beyond beautiful. Ed
