Wanted a winch for the Avant, 3k plus here new (if the dealers even phone back) Picked this second hand one for 1k in the UK, arriving tomorrow. Missing the fairleads, but that’s not an issue. Will look like this one.

Dedicated stump grinder vs skid steer with grinder attachment? Pros and Cons?

The problem with hydraulic drive stumper attachments is they rob the power compared to belt drive. With smaller hp machines this becomes an issue.

When they say ‘conventional stumpgrinders have difficulty grinding under ground level because of soil blocking the sweep’ they’re wrong. The problem is that as the chip builds up under the grinder wheels/tracks as it...

Dedicated stump grinder vs skid steer with grinder attachment? Pros and Cons?

Maybe so, maybe no. But that video doesn’t impress me much (and I’m not Shania Twain). Be interested what @lumberjack thinks.

How busy are you this year compared to other years?

Phone is slow, waiting for the ground to dry up so I can get the Avant involved. Had a few ‘maintenance’ days these last few weeks

Dedicated stump grinder vs skid steer with grinder attachment? Pros and Cons?

This has been discussed on many platforms. The consensus is usually that grinder attachements on loaders are a poor substitute. Partly because they don’t work very well and partly because the loader is tied up on the stump rather than doing more useful work.

    Tree felling vids

I’ve only done small stuff, but I’ve found that it’ll always go sideways (depending on pressure on the broken top) you just have to work out which way it wants to go.

    Tree felling vids

I was looking at that as well. They really do some crazy stuff when you cut them, a case of choose your side carefully. Whats the protocol for those from the forestry pros?
