    Replying to a Post

I thought it was a computing power thingy, technically speaking. I agree that especially for strangers, quoting makes it easier. An outsider to a bunch of friends with inside jokes and slang and relationships will have a hard time getting into the group because it's hard to follow the culture.

    Beginner Tree Climbing Tips

Ropewalking up a vertical pole with a flipline is easy, with practice. Toes touch the trunk. Might help build the motion. Backwards bicycle motion. Shorter steps to start. I ropewalked 2-3 days ago was was taking more than 12" strides.

    Beginner Tree Climbing Tips

I cut a Petzl handled ascender down about 15 years ago. Been using it since. Tried commercially made floating ascenders. Not any better/ better enough for me to spend 150 bucks. Set up right, I float up a rope if rec climbing. Carrying an extra 20-30 pounds of gear, it smooth, but floating...

Momentum/ speed helps poor hinges. Pull hard and fast enough and the tree goes where you pull it. We weakened and ripped down a horrible maple against the lean with a small skidder's skookum winch. No hinge. Too rotten.

@davidwyby Super tight parking on a small island with 42 houses jammed in. The little trailer (5k axle) was good for chipping into, from both parcels without unhooking the chipper, hitching the trailer, moving the trailer, unhooking reconnecting to the chipper blah blah. Crash pad for...

    Firewood

I've been working on our wood. We will go through 4 cords easily between 3 stove, 2 houses, where one burns regularly, 2 burn continuously most of the deep winter. I never measure. Thankfully, 2 have large fireboxes in the big house. One is a small fireboxfor a small house, though plenty...

Pros and Cos of various friction hitches in the trees

I helped Roger B with a sequoia about 15 years ago. The 40'er was a help for taking the stairs. I think it didn't turn into regular flipping up on spurs for a long while. Easier to strand on branches fir a while,, maybe the first 100'.

As a tip, 3 Benjamins and... 6 packs of fish: Blue fin tuna, coho salmon, ling cod. I've got a bunch of last year's beef and berries to eat up. The calves are growing and going to slaughter in s month. If you've ever heard of Eberhardt blueberries from California, they started spitting...

Pros and Cos of various friction hitches in the trees

Taking the 'stairs' (ladder) helps a lot if the tree is bulbous at large, low crotches

    How'd it go today?

It's a toy/ experiment/ light- duty tool. I'm going fir a different daily driver 4wd work truck/ van before a real mini-x. It's light- weight and small. Can barely swing over the dump trailer wall when at max reach. A flatbed trailer would load over the side better (lower). A hydraulic...
