Yeah, looks screwy to me. For that to even be feasible your bar would have to reach through, and if your bar can reach through standard methods should work fine.

Cut a few more you will. I've cut em off, over sideways, over backwards, barber chair... if it can be f'd up I've done it. Guy was bucking logs for dad for awhile, claimed he hadn't been hung up in 6 months. Dad told em to go ahead and cut a few of em off... lol. Logs looked like linked up...

No kidding. We were cutting for Cliff Walker in Hoonah in '07. Cut some with Cliff down here. Cut with his brother Dan for several years.

They penny inched in Hoonah, in the days before I got there. We were day wagin.

Not where I was. Most if not all of the hemlock had to be long butted to get to sound wood after felling. Often between 8 and and 30 ft of cull butt log. So the stumps werent a concern. Would be very hard to make low stumps up there. The spruce were better. I'm no Alaska expert. I spent...

Trees have a lot of flare, and flutes. Have to make higher stumps to get out of it. Like real high.

Sizwill? Sizwheel? Whizzy? WTH (What the Heck)

Rotten. Lots of 4 and 5 footers that we joked you could literally cut with a skill saw. 3 or 4 inches of sound sap wood is all they had. Took 15 to 25 feet off the butts usually before you'd hit sound wood. Trees were shorter than the stuff down here. Lots of snags. And lots of bears.

It was wet. 10 days all summer it didn't rain. It gets old. No hardwoods to cut. All spruce and hemlock. The hemlock was all rotten on the butts. Lots of Huckleberry brush, and bugs. Lots of fish too. It's wonderful place if you like to hunt and fish, especially fish. I loved every...

Not that big. I've cut a few around 8'. Mostly 3, 4, and 5 footers, some 6'. The summer I spent in Hoonah, Ak was simular sized stuff.

Of course they were. Trees grew there once, they will again. You know planting is required? Some folks around here don't like clearcuts. They're ugly they say. They're so ignorant they don't realize the patch of reprod next to the clearcut used to be a clearcut. It's farming, we're...

Best Chainsaw for Cutting Trees for Pruning and Light Wood Cutting, Expert’s Guide to Choose One

I'm naive at this, how can we tell it's a bot? Trying to learn.... The dull chain statement is dead on.

    Tree covered in poison ivy

I'm lucky I don't hardly get poison oak. I've cut timber that was 30" in diameter that you couldn't see the bark for 80ft through the poison oak vines, some maybe 2" in diameter. Point of interest, you guys all say "back chain." All the cutters here call it back barring. You can't cut...

Thanks for the feedback. Only old growth I've ever cut has been on private ground, or in a burn on government ground widening right of ways for safety. In both cases it has been relatively rare. The 3120 gets run every 2 to 5 years typically. Again, there are thousands of acres of old growth...

Sizwill? Sizwheel? Whizzy? WTH (What the Heck)

BLM and Forest Service have 1000's of acres of old growth here that won't ever be cut. I do think some of it should be saved. Most of it is over-ripe, rotten, and falling down or burning up. I wouldn't want to cut it if we could. On the other hand... It's a publicly owned resource that has...

    Chiselbit

SDM4 grinds into the top of the rivets everytime, it has to in order to get the sideplates as wide as I like. So long as you don't get the stone too wide, it's never been a problem. Of course when my teeth get down to about 1/3 or so of original length they get hung on the wall and I cut some...

    Chiselbit

I always grind new chain, ain't worth a damn otherwise. Id try just a tiny bit of hook if it was me. Your wood maybe harder than mine, or dirtier, so maybe not. You can also tip the sideplate farther ahead, as you said, and widen it some more. It's wider now than most I've seen, but it can...
