Spent the day in the park across from the hospital waiting on my mom having kidney stone procedure done. Nice break.
Vermillion flycatcher
Unusual for here blue gum euc (I think)
Straight vs. the mostly codominant red gums we mostly have
Still alive and kicking. Been spending less time online and I haven’t been receiving alerts to well when I am. Trying to keep my hours at work down between 40 and 50 hours a week now. I am growing tired of this work thing. Don’t confuse this with getting lazy. I just want my physical and...
@cory Sorry I missed your question somehow. The knee injury is still questionable. The braces help immensely. I was wearing one for work and one for class. Now I just wear it for class. I still get a slight burning sensation in the evening when I put pressure on it. I was very close to going...
I faintly remember the days when being up and at 'em for 18 hrs was nothing, and I could do it for days on end. Nowadays, it would take me three days to recover, if I even made it through at all :).
Youth is a wonderful thing!
Good day out yesterday at the fights. 79 fights in the end. Felt a bit sorry for Haakon as he was there at 0830 and I picked him up from the ferry at 2355 last night. I left about 1830 as I wanted to get home.
Then up the gym today for another clinch session followed by a few rounds on the pads.
bump. A lot of useful tips in one place! One more from Beranek’s working climber series. If you can’t use the girth hitch 18” from the end and you need to use the pile hitch-half hitches-clove hitch method and the little rope tip beyond the clove hitch is bending over, use electrical tape to...
Jack be nimble, Jack be quick. It’s amazing how new phone cameras can get the tricky exposures. The picture of two people with the baby and the night sky draws me in like it’s telling a story.
Meh. There's always going to be a need for experienced fellers with boots on the ground. Mechanization is always the first step in the path to automation. That said, I don't think we have as much to worry about and the fearmongers would like us too.
Little orange cones from Dollar Tree help with stumps and rocks. Ground level changes a bit as you run round the cut stumps. Use these a lot to mark the desired path and obstacles.

Short stumps are the Bain of track machines. Most of the time if I’m working an area and there are small 2” diameter or about stumps I’ll pull them out with the grapple. Another tip is to use a clearing saw and cut the small stuff at dirt level.
Coulda been tighter, coupled with mud and a high pressure spot, like the track on a low holly stump that I should have marked with a flag or left much taller. .
Any idea as to exactly how the track came off? Too loose (lack of maintenance) or I've found that driving over a low spot such that the middle of the track is unsupported and sagging coupled with being at an angle that can slide the track out of alignment with the middle rollers will cause it to...
