    New pull start handles

I don't, and never have really liked that method. In my experience, it works pretty well if the saw is already warmed up, but on a cold saw I find it tiresome. For me, it only works at all with big enough saws to have serious mass. I prefer standing on the rear handle base with my right...

    New pull start handles

I can report that after using the 044 several times on my cottonwood clean-up project, the D handle has been great. Very easy starting with this 70cc saw that is without comp release. The larger handle did not get in my way in use at all...that was one point I was a little uncertain about. I...

Yeah, cold...German Shepards are known for their short, thin coats. Next to no under coat either.

Your friend is both smart and wise. I haven't even started a chainsaw to do a little carb adjustment or such without chaps or saw pants on in about 45 years. I'm that convinced that even the best of us can have a bad moment, and with a spinning saw chain a moment is all it takes to cause...

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

About the same here, it's now 10:30ish. Should hit about 50 this afternoon. Dry today and the next couple. Nice weather.

    Wood stove heat

Nice. For me, stacked firewood is pure utilitarianism, which has its own attractiveness when done well. That is artistry...and I am no artist and certainly don't think I'd have the patience for it :).

    How'd it go today?

What you can do with a solid skillset in using a throwline (and multiple throwlines) is pretty much only limited by your imagination and doggedness. What you describe is within that range, maybe not even much of a challenge @davidwyby. ;) Boy, you are really getting a lot of use out of that...

That first one is not my definition of funny...that's scary bad. The melted thermo on the other hand :D.

    Wood stove heat

Well, perhaps if I was not being able to more than adequately heat our house doing it the way I have been, I might. But cutting twice as many times per cord, stacking twice as many pieces per cord lacks appeal when I'm pretty satisfied with my current methods :).

I'm throwing no stones, I promise. M and I rented and then bought our 5 acres with an ancient 35-foot mobile home on it and lived in that hovel happily for 9 years before we could afford to build a small house. It was a roof over our heads; cheap, and that was the only way we could have swung...
