How do some people survive to adulthood, I wonder.

I'm throwing no stones, I promise. M and I rented and then bought our 5 acres with an ancient 35-foot mobile home on it and lived in that hovel happily for 9 years before we could afford to build a small house. It was a roof over our heads; cheap, and that was the only way we could have swung...

If healthy, the trees would be worth far more than the home :D.

    Wood stove heat

The straight in log method must require a stove that is quite deep. With my Hearthstone, it is fine with 18 inch wood sideways, but it would have to be no longer than 12 inches or even less to go in straight on. No way am I going to be cutting firewood at 10-12 inches. That's just silly :).

Throw line skills, tips, tricks, techniques

That's a great price. I don't need another one at this point in my life, but not so long ago I'd have jumped on that. There are innumerable things I no longer need more of at my age, but are quite attractive nonetheless :). Also, some things I do need that are somewhat less attractive, but...

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

True. Mild winters always are followed by summers rife with yellow jackets...just one example I dislike :). Snowpack is at historic lows, so summer river levels will be low as well...hard on fish, hard on farmers, hard on hydro. Fruit trees are budding way too early...and will more than...

    Wood stove heat

I've been meaning to post to this thread regarding a holiday season gift "to the house" from my lady M. A fireplace bellows for use with freshening up the fire in the woodstove, either starting from scratch or adding fuelwood to a fire that has died down to small coals. I have to say I was...

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

Stupid nice weather for early February. Yesterday it was sunny and warm...mid 60's! We had friends and their dog over for a romp on our fenced acreage and lunch they brought, and we ate outside on the deck like it was June. Crazy.

    How'd it go today?

I don't have a machine of that nature. There are a couple of small tractors with front end loader buckets that neighbors own and that I have borrowed a time or two over the years. But this area is down in the riparian flat alongside the little creek we have, and is still fairly well treed with...

    How'd it go today?

With this splendid weather that @SeanKroll mentions, M and I have been working at clearing/cleanup of the giant windthrown cottonwood. Making progress. Plenty more to go but getting there a bit at a time. It really is looking much better in the areas we have worked on.

What Did Ya'll Have For Dinner Tonight?

I put a slab of steelhead on the smoker grill, and we made a pot of grits and steamed some nice, sweet broccoli.

    File guides

I let a chain go before I get to the reference line...by then the tooth is smaller than I like. But I don't have to economize like an everyday cutter for money may need to. Maybe an 8th of an inch short of the reference mark. I'm pretty easy going on filing rakers. I drop them a couple of...

I can recall something sorta similar happening on a few occasions with me, that Stihl 084, and a much younger sawyer than I ;).

From an old thread, some thoughts by me... thread started by our sadly gone friend Jed. This is a good one. https://www.masterblasterhome.com/threads/someone-might-care-who-knows.18400/page-16#post-1027945

    How'd it go today?

I know what you mean, brother. In my last few years with the USFS, I was about done with finding any fun in dragging that 084/60 in. bar and chain out through the brush. Even downsized to the 42 in. b&c, it was a task. Younger bodies still had the steam...I liked being the wisdom dispensing...
