    Wood stove heat

B, your bellows story reminds me of when my wife got me a 4 wheel wheelbarrow for Xmas. I was like r u feeling ok, I have 2 (regular) wheelbarrows already. Well sure enough it is awesome and I haven’t used a regular one in a few years. Great for firewood tasks. Geez, women!

    Wood stove heat

I've always kept about 2 and a half feet of half inch or smaller copper pipe near the stove. One end is flared for a compression fitting, the other is flattened off, nearly closed. Makes a nice fan shaped pattern that helps wake the coals quite quickly. A hand bellows is much better, but the...

    Borer “trap tree”

GSOB : if the limbs are chipped and dumped in a leaf compost pit, the larvae should not survive, correct? Or will they maybe survive in the compost? Thanks

I think I bought my last ones from Wesspur, though I'm not positive. I have bought quite a couple off Amazon. The last couple I've bought are okay, as far as the cube itself is concerned, but the holes in the corners are big enough for a stray cat to get into, it seems. I am exaggerating, for...

    Wood stove heat

The straight in log method must require a stove that is quite deep. With my Hearthstone, it is fine with 18 inch wood sideways, but it would have to be no longer than 12 inches or even less to go in straight on. No way am I going to be cutting firewood at 10-12 inches. That's just silly :).

    Wood stove heat

I have found the straight in log method to work well also. Also found when running the stove hot ash burns down more and coals burn up. Not even a lot more air, just with more wood. I usually don't burn too hot, but with cold plunges we have had the fire has been getting packed with more wood...

That's a great price. I don't need another one at this point in my life, but not so long ago I'd have jumped on that. There are innumerable things I no longer need more of at my age, but are quite attractive nonetheless :). Also, some things I do need that are somewhat less attractive, but...

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

True. Mild winters always are followed by summers rife with yellow jackets...just one example I dislike :). Snowpack is at historic lows, so summer river levels will be low as well...hard on fish, hard on farmers, hard on hydro. Fruit trees are budding way too early...and will more than...

Feels like May here too. Ridiculous. Hard to complain about good weather, but it needs winter or summer will suck

    Wood stove heat

I've been meaning to post to this thread regarding a holiday season gift "to the house" from my lady M. A fireplace bellows for use with freshening up the fire in the woodstove, either starting from scratch or adding fuelwood to a fire that has died down to small coals. I have to say I was...

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

Stupid nice weather for early February. Yesterday it was sunny and warm...mid 60's! We had friends and their dog over for a romp on our fenced acreage and lunch they brought, and we ate outside on the deck like it was June. Crazy.

    Contract climber rate?

Markets vary, here and everywhere. Most climbers have established relationships with a number of different companies that they juggle to suit all parties.

    Contract climber rate?

The blackhole of contract climber rates. I've always told climbers asking about rates to try and align themselves with the other professional trades(electrician, plumber, tiler etc) in their area. These trades typically require X amount of work hours plus sometime spent at the trades school...
