    File guides

The Stihl guide with the depth gauge file included seems like it works well also.

    File guides

The husky roller guide work good but I don’t think they will work with all brands, I have one for 3/8th’s and the .325LP and the both have depth gauges attached, and when I started using them my chain was a lot sharper than my hand file, but I’m only a year into my journey so I’m sure eventually...

    File guides

I started filing with one of those sheet metal oregon guides. It never seemed like they quite got the right file depth, so I started hand filing. I can do a pretty fair job of it. My mechanic bud just goes and buys a new chain. I told him about those file guides, but he wasn't really...

    The Official Work Pictures Thread

Not much to qualify for tree work. Made this go away with the 2511 for a friend. Started on trailer load of oak logs into firewood.

Y'all might plug "liability" into the search function...there are multiple threads on the subject. Not to dissuade anyone from giving you input, not at all.

    Basic Insurance

My friend who works for a tree company here in NC asked me to get liability insurance so he can use me when he needs me and pay me as an independent contractor instead of hourly on their companies. Is liability all I need when doing tree work? What liability would experienced climbers...

    File guides

I use JB Holdway’s idea of using a golf ball as a file handle. Works great.

This kind. It says 3/17 I always assumed they were universal tho.

    File guides

I’m talking about the generic one that comes in any sharpening set you see on Amazon…. I can hand file…. Well I think I can I just want to see how my chain compares to one used with the guide…. And I just flat out can’t file the little 1/4” pico stuff on my pole saw so there’s that.

    How'd it go today?

Possibly just frostnip. Right thumb and index are tingling. In more exciting news, I had to run the mill for a few minutes yesterday. It looks like that ball bearing in the belt tensioner was making all the racket. A pretty easy fix, other than the shroud making it difficult to put...

Spiral cut files removed the need to twist, I believe. A properly tensioned or tight- for- sharpening chain is important.

    File guides

Italian made Oregon 511A. Looks like I have three thin grinding wheels (smaller pitch chain), one medium wheel ( I think it was sized for 73LP) and a new raker wheel still in cardboard.
