    Block (dowel) on top = block on bottom. Once string is plumb, both blocks touch the wall

    Exactly so. I looked again and picked up the spacers, just as you describe, Cory. A nice method.

    I believe it was just a plumb line but with properly sized spacers so that if the top spacer is pushed flush to the stone, the bottom one should also be touching and parallel to the stone. If it wasn't touching, then the wall aint plumb.

    i would‘nt do that as you will wear out the attachment point pretty fast. short carabiner and a shorter bridge maybe?

    i just lay the tire on the ground without a log under it. good way to dull the maul on concrete ;)
