    How'd it go today?

I hit a nail on the last cut and it broke the chain. Just a stock Echo 490 pulling it.

    How'd it go today?

I haven't gotten them home yet, but I've been gifted 24, 12volt batteries grim an off grid solar system. They upgraded to lithium. Researching grid tied backup. Keep it topped off on the grid, then have backup during an outage. A day or two with no power would be very unusual. I have a propane...

I like how shutting down the machine was the last priority. I'd still like to know how these kinds of folks can be successful, while I'm eating ramen. Maybe because I'm risk adverse, I don't know.

I actually would feel much better about that failure, knowing it was not bad material, but rather bad installation of the swage. Poor quality cable you cannot fix...poor quality assembly, you can.

Properly kept, mulberry (especially the fruitless) can be lovely trees. Being from the desert, I've never seen one produce pollards that size in a single year, it's pretty impressive. Stephen's photos kinda make it hard to grasp the scale, but I know just how big that black trailer is. Lots of...

Fruitless Mulberry. Morus alba. Been pollarding this one for years. Couple of the leads are showing decay. One is dying. The smallest of 5. Those will come off next year. Leaving the 3 larger.

Looked at a walnut that I'll be milling. 6'2" across the stump.

The Humboldt is primarily for speed of production

I would expect that cutting with a lean pulls more fiber with a standard backcut as the hinge is only cut until its time to exit. A backstrap trigger for a bore cut would allow a thinner hinge if desirable.

    Mulberry? Underrated tree for pollarding.

Looked for the name or number on the sleeve Esco Realized it didn’t break, it was probably improperly swaged.

    How'd it go today?

The red one is much prettier Also not exactly apples to apples. Red is running 34” of full comp chiselbit and 461 30” of skip. The wood feels like cottonwood, a little harder but fibrous. Drag on the chain.
