I use a hook that BIGTWIG made for me, it is a simple J style. The advantage of the j style is that you can twist the rope to make it spin to either catch or release a limb.

I am with kevin on this. I love buying my own gear and using it on the job, and then taking it home and tweaking it. I appreciate when a company throws some money my way for gear, but it is not necessary.

Another climber who cares about their job is the best groundsperson. They can anticipate the next move and know the urgency in some situations.

I tend to retrieve with the tail of my line. I tie to the hanging leg of the alpine resulting in a closed loop that "follows" you through redirects.

I mean climbing side of the line for the alpine.

If a guy learns to tie an alpine around the standing end of the line you can get rid of the pinto and carabiner.
