Going on the road...I bought a van

Yeah I've seen a lot of this where I worked before. And then they always did seem to leave. But hey, I'm already trained and everyone knows I'd leave after a few weeks ;) It would be nice to work off wages, though it sounds like it would be less than ideal for several companies out there. I'll...

Going on the road...I bought a van

What's y'all's thoughts on insurance? Do you think that the companies I work for along the way will provide it or should I buy before I travel? Or maybe it's half and half, in the the companies might pay liability but workers comp is on me? What are your thoughts?

Going on the road...I bought a van

Did you enjoy your time living in the van? Did you spend most of the time at an actual campground with hookups and stuff? Seems like an easy and more peaceful way to live, though I don't know what the cost comparison might be vs. renting. Did you save money?

Charlottesville? I haven't visited Virgina very much. We should make it out that way at some point. Thanks. I'll chronicle where we're headed on here once the journey begins. Thankful to feel the tree love!

Going on the road...I bought a van

What's up guys. So I just bought a 1981 vw air cooled vanagon, and starting in July or so of next year my girlfriend and I will be hitting the road. We don't know for how long. We just want to see the beauty the United States, Canada, and maybe even Mexico and beyond has to offer. Any...

    How's the splice today?

I did another Aztec splice last night and loaded it before whipping. Worked nice. Thanks for the help. (And for the original instruction at the splicing course at treestuff, Nick!)

    How's the splice today?

I already whipped it, and it's been climbed on. It almost seems like when I stitched the crossover it created the bump. If that bump appears in the next splice I'll try that trick before I whip it. Thanks

    How's the splice today?

Cool, thanks. Yeah, I just need that crossover to lay flat without distorting the rope once buried....

    How's the splice today?

I also spliced a lanyard out of teufelberger reep schnur (or however you spell it) and have a pesky bump. I trust these splices, but am annoyed that they aren't as beautiful as they could be. Recommendations? Tips?

    How's the splice today?

Another Aztec splice I did. The little crossover bump is visible in this one too.

    How's the splice today?

I have a problem getting little bumps from my crossovers. I stitch them to make them more compact and maybe I stitch them a little unevenly? How much do you think this effects the strength? The aztec is my splice, the tachyon is ABR

All round ground saw choice - 460 or 660?

I just got a stihl 362, and it came with 18", 20", and 25" inch bars. and some chaps. And a mess of chains. $580. Runs like a champ! Granted I'm not using it for production tree work, just some general around the house work for wood turning, etc. But I'm impressed. It will fill great between my...

Yeah, I called them and now we're thinking it might be the spindle shaft. I'm taking it back to them so we'll see. Hope this works :/:

    Wood Turning

Took it to an industrial supply store that specializes in wood working equipment and is also a JET dealer. They found that the spindle pulley assembly was shot, and they replaced a few of the bearings for good measure. This process took almost 2 months because the spindle pulley was on backorder...

    Grant Hadwin

Interesting thread. I just read the golden spruce this past summer after visiting the PCW on a family vacation. Was a very interesting read as an arborist. It made me feel an interesting balance of extreme admiration for those crazy hard working loggers and extreme sadness for what we have let...
