    Wood stove heat

13 inches on my stove. It is a two-fer for me. When it isn't too cold out sideways makes a fire without overheating the house. When you need a hot fire straight in delivers that. My main heat source is big old stove with bi metallic draft control that takes 23 inch lunkers. Probably not...

    How'd it go today?

He could easily make an APTA. Throwing and even the Big Shot take some time to learn. I would like to own an APTA.

    Mustard

I like spicy also. Horseradish mustard is good.

    Wood stove heat

My neighbor dodged a big bullet doing something similar. The daughter cleaned out the Ben Franklin ashes into a paper sack. She set the paper sack out on the recessed front porch. In the morning the hot embers had a 1 foot diameter hole charred in the floor right where a bunch of floor joists...

    Wood stove heat

Works good. Probably not great for indoors. I heard about a guy sucking ashes out of his pellet stove with a shop vac. Tried to do it before waiting long enough. It was shooting sparks out of the exhaust. Whoopsie.

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

-1 with wind 25 gusting to 36. First I have really run my oil boiler. Think I could get away without it, but don't want to risk frozen pipes.

    Wood stove heat

I have found the straight in log method to work well also. Also found when running the stove hot ash burns down more and coals burn up. Not even a lot more air, just with more wood. I usually don't burn too hot, but with cold plunges we have had the fire has been getting packed with more wood...

    How'd it go today?

Just changing a headlight bulb can be a major project now. I plan on buying an old vehicle from down south if I need another one. Shipping is quite cheap. Newer vehicles are just getting more and more stupid. One of those headlight buffing kits might do the trick.

I have a hand written phone book from the mid 70s. Lots of memories in there. My youngest son added his contribution to it when he was 4 or 5. Almost 47 now.

    File guides

That's what I did with the stamped metal Oregon guide that the file clips in. Then transitioned to hand filing. Anybody tried the dremel grinders with diamond bits? I think they make a smoother, sharper tooth than a file or wheel grinder. Just got one and there is a bit of a learning curve...

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

Highs in the low teens and lows around 0 or negative. Wind pushing 40 today and brisk wind for several days. Good if you like sledding , skiing, or plowing snow I guess. Kids like to get a snow day, but now they have to do their work at home on the computer.

    File guides

The Stihl guide with the depth gauge file included seems like it works well also.

    File guides

I started filing with one of those sheet metal oregon guides. It never seemed like they quite got the right file depth, so I started hand filing. I can do a pretty fair job of it. My mechanic bud just goes and buys a new chain. I told him about those file guides, but he wasn't really...
