Persimmon was also my first impression due to the cobbled, alligator-skin bark. But (Black gum, Tupelo, Sour gum) ‘Nyssa sylvatica’ is likely, as it appears somewhat lighter in color than persimmon.
Thanks for the guidance. I have one of these on our property too, I believe. The canopy of this one was not natural so I didn’t take a picture. I’ll start digging in to the names you laid out for me. Much appreciated!
