Just got a never fired power-head only (poulan) - for doing 2 muffler mods to a couple of other Poulans.
Going to give her a woods port and muffler mod - any idea if the clutch teeth are .325 or .375 ?
ANy idea on a decent bar length to shoot for if it was to stay as stock ..... what about bar length as ported ?
Any known problems with the oiler (like some Poulans have) ??

Gotta decide to keep or to flip

They came with .325. 16" to 20" My dad has been running 20" on his since 80's. I like a 16".

3.3 will either be like the 3300 1 1.5mm ring or 335 2 thin rings.

3300 is bare bore with chromed piston. 335 chrome bore, bare piston.

Now the craftsman could be chrome bore with a 3450 piston which is bare and single 1.5mm ring.

Need to look at P if shiney or dull, same for cylinder if you cant tell.

You confused yet.

Good saws no matter what. No oiler problems.

I can throw up some pictures for your expert eyes to look over if - n you want ??

I ported my 33 cc saw and run it with a 16" wand .325 ........

Was thinking of putting a few tanks through it stock (tuned), then MM'd, then ported - just to see the gains.

2 1.5mm rings was unexpected. Thanks for sharing. Add that to my list now. Can you get me pics of both side of saw and decals on recoil and clutch cover.

Is that piston chromed? Cant tell below ring area.

I searched the world over and thought I found true love . I also found another. It turned out to be a grey 3.3 showing chromed piston and double 1.5mm rings with bare bore. Thanks for the piston pic of this too.

Thanks for bringing this up, so now I have 4 different known set ups for these 54cc saws.

I will put up pics before the weekend is over.
This saw could easily fit as my ported 50cc middleman.

Of all of the 54cc setups you have, which do you like the most ?

I dont have them all in 54cc. I had 335 thin ring, 3300 1 thick ring. Know a guy with chrome bore and 3450 1 ring piston.

I like the 335, but put a blindfold on bet couldnt tell the difference. Thin rings for 335 NLA. 49cc top will fit the models too.

Also another 54cc class of poulan was 3450 330. Plus side 60cc tops fit these.

I owe you an apology. Its been just about a year since you asked me for some more pics of this thing. I have no excuse to offer, as I wont make up a story, I just plain old let it slip my every shrinking mind. I am sorry !!

OK, so 1 year later - here we go .........

Sticker calls for 1/2 pint (8oz) to a gallon (128oz) .............. thats 16:1 !!!!
Is this due to the unlined cylinder with a chromed piston ??

Thanks !! I figured better pictures might help me get a brownie point or two - after all its only taken my about a year to live up to what I wrote in post #9

Ha ha ......... unfortunately at the pace I am at, a snail would get a speeding ticket !!

I'm not so certain that saw was made by Poulan because of the removable cylinder .I had one similar to that that ended up in a trade .Cut for Fun ended up with it .

Thanks Al, but if Poulan didnt make it, would you happen to know who might have ?

Truthfully I have no idea who made that thing for Sears and Roebuck .It might be a Poulan in Craftsman clothing but I am not aware Poulan made a removable cylinder model in later years .Then too I'm not really up on Poulans

I had heard it could be either Dolmar or Husqvarna but again I'm not certain that's factual .

Chainsawr pegs it as a Poulan made for Craftsman, and does have some parts for it available labeled as such. That removeable cylinder is the only reason I took it.

Magnus, the only numbers are on the sticker on the top cover (first picture in post #12)
