Back in the mid 90's- some of you in North America will remember the very real concerns of the Gypsy Moth.
These little guys were everywhere -with a voracious appetite to match.

When I was a kid, I had picked up a woolybear caterpillar and within minutes my hands were swollen with a hive type rash that itched like anything.

As an adult, this allergy to them and any species wit hair have the same affect. If one lands on my shirt and falls away, the hairs remaining will still give me a problem- causing red itchy raised welts that will last for days.

Climbing during the Gypsy Moth invasion was nightmarish to say the least. My hands were so swollen I could hardly close them. Thanks to nature, we found that a rainy spring caused these pests to form a cellular eating fungus, that put a serious dent in the population.
