Stopped by the local fire department they were throwing this Mac away IMG_20230924_170534.jpg IMG_20231006_171943.jpg
I put a Oregon fuel line in it and a china carb kit IMG_20231006_172745.jpg
IMG_20231006_174912.jpg
It started on the second pull and runs and oils great
I was given a 20" and a 32" bar and new Oregon chains at a estate sale.
I never ran McCulloch's much before.

Is that a chain brake, or just a hand guard? When did they start putting brakes on saws?

This is a 1982 model with a chainbrake
I don't know when chainbrake's were introduced
I've only ran a few of macs.

I might fire it up for a tank of fuel every so often, but I couldn't go without av either. My first poulanpro didn't have av. No problems when I first got it, but after awhile, I'd really feel it after running it a bit. Fingers would buzz for an hour or two afterward. Probably not a huge deal for occasional use, but I wouldn't want to risk permanent damage.

My Pullin Pro Wild Thing will tingle your fingers. I fire it every 6 months of so. Makes me grateful for my better saws.

Good find Czed. Cool to run one of those and see how far tech progressed.

Cool before and after refurbishment thread!

No AV would be a deal breaker for me

I'm pretty much immune to these little to no av saws I've been running 2 series since the 80s lol

The s model 10-10 was the last produced and 57 cc's rather than 54 cc's . I've got one a trimmer bought new but never used much and had the original chain .It spent about 20 years in a basement .Typical of most trimmers saws the brake had been removed . It's a shelf queen I don't use but the last I checked it will run .Some of the 10 series vibrated and some did not .I would say of the millions of McCulloch's
made the 10-10 was the most sold . McCulloch circled the drain in the late 90's.

I just weighed these today
IMG_20231009_142851.jpg
10-10 20" laminate bar IMG_20231009_143029.jpg
266xp 24" solid bar
IMG_20231009_142929.jpg husqvarna 460 20" bar
All full of fuel and oil.

That 460 is a gutless dog the Mac is stronger with more torque.
The ported 266 walks all over both of them.

The 266 is a fine saw, ahead of it's time really.
I have modern saws but I always go back to the 266s
I started running them in the mid 80s
I'm just a occasionally timber cutter and firewooder anymore.
