does anyone own or have experience with this type of splitter. We plan to run it off of the loaders hydraulics and skid steer style hook up. It would supplement our TW-6. Us pride hands free log splitter http://www.usprideproducts.com/

The cone style is the best method I've found to bust log length pieces. I've thought about getting/building a similar attachment for busting logs to run through the chipper.

I'd look at another model, they are slow to start with, and the slow pitch of that one would be super slow IMO!
They have their place, but not my cup of tea.

This one is more coarse will fit on a post hole auger, you can rent them for around $150 a day.
This is the "Unicorn" splitter, it's a lot more coarse, they have some vids on this page.

that style looks a bit dangerous. Imagine getting a sleeve caught in it or slipping. ouch.

I've run one run off of an old Chevy truck, scary doesn't even begin to describe the feeling!

I know a guy that was splitting wood with a tractor mounted cone style splitter......His left arm ended up on the wood pile.

My pap built a screw splitter back in the 70's using a Jeep rear end,Jeep tranny and powered it from the power take off of a tractor .It would split just about anything .Kind of hillbilly engineering type thing .It wasn't as good as a hydraulic spitter but it was better than an axe .

I just watched the video from the first link- it looks like the works is slow and pretty sloppy. It's doing some amazing things to some GIANT pieces of wood, but what you're left with are sioppily chopped monsters.

Which is ok as it is just breaking the big stuff into more manageable pieces for the timberwolf operator

ordered the screw last week and it came in yesterday. It works great for what it does. Not the fastest splitter but it will split the biggest wood you can find. I split some 10 ft cedar logs with it today and was impressed. Pics to follow.

Now that it's been mentioned that might not be a bad idea to break up a stump so you could jerk the pieces out with a backhoe . You can surely get a hole of magnum proportion tipping one with a dozer or track hoe .

Yeah can see backin that thing in a back yard,

Heres another odd one that would never go in a backyard

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VvSPx_1ZH6k?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VvSPx_1ZH6k?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Now this one has potential, If it will work on any auger drive --
Cheap stump grinder(? maybe chiseler) if you have the drive in your tool box already

in the beginning of this video you can see the screw in action. Get your minds out of the gutter.
