I have one tree with a cavity and one with black ants. I am trying to save them.

The one with a cavity I am not sure if I should fill the cavity or not? If so, what to fill it with.

The second one I am straying with ant killer. Once I get the ants killed I plan on spraying it with pruning spray. Am I doing the right thing?

First one is ant tree and second is cavity tree.

Species of tree?

Which state city is it in?

Judging by the pics provided alone?

No big deal, let the wound/cavity callous over naturally.

Species of tree? Oak, I think.

Which state city is it in? Knoxville, TN

Judging by the pics provided alone? I don't understand the question.

No big deal, let the wound/cavity callous over naturally.

See above

No big deal on either score. Hard to find any oak in CA that's not infested with ants.

Cavity filling and spraying wounds are both old school techniques that are no longer used (commonly anyways). Like Jomo said, no big deal.

Don' fill it,don't spray paint on it. The tree is managing fine without you, however give us some pictures from further back to we can see the whole tree

iT'S OK TO PULL AWAY LOOSE DEAD MATERIAL and get a better look, But I agree with the above.

No spray, no cavity filling. Hire a good, local professional tree care specialist if you're really concerned. A consultation is not that expensive, and may help other trees on your property, and teach you a lot.
