That sure is a dry looking place.
Nice palm trees.

I think I'd have put a block above that Hobbs-like device.

Why the overkill on the bullrope? Working the climber to death?

If you don't fully understand the forces at work or the amount of force necessary to tip a tree then just use everything you got. 8)
Maybe they were dealing with gale force headwinds that day.

Sad Diego is a nice area to live in. Work and hit the beach in the late afternoon when it glasses off and catch a few waves. Then you have Tijuana close by if you want to further enrich your cultural experience.

+1 what Darin said.

Probably high winds. Windy as all get out once you get out of the city towards the passes or near the beach. A gust can set a tree back on you lickety split.

Why the overkill on the bullrope? Working the climber to death? Was Schwarzenegger climbing that day?

Butch, there was a steady breeze to the highway. We had a goober city guy making sure that what we did , did not need a permit. We took no chance's that it would fail because there was not much for signage other than ' Road work ahead'. The city guy was watching and had to 'sign-off' on the job. But I see what you are saying. It's a Cali thing!

If someone sent that rope up to me, and I didn't ask for it/ need it, I'd come down and go home. That's a Louisiana thang.
