I've heard this is a common problem on these models; bottom roller jamming on dead wood mostly. We open the belly pan but it still happens. Now, the rollers seem to be sensitive and jam even just when feeding larger branches. The hydraulics make a good squeal when it happens. I don't want to make anything worse...

Yes!

I have 2001 model 90 and mine hates deadwood only, jams up bottom roller as well.... the best thing to do alternate it up with green wood, seems to push it in better and not jam up as bad.

I turn down chipping old piles of deadwood that people left on property that missed burn season, not worth the time and dulls knives faster....

Cal-Line Equip. in Sacramento Ca feels like they have that worked out. They double up the no. of knives on the bottom roller and it evidently keeps chips from building up in there and jamming near as much. I rented and ran a 90XP on primarily dead pine for a long day and only had to reverse wheels a handfull of times.
