What Did Ya'll Have For Dinner Tonight?

I'd have to try that to see. I'm not a huge fan of sweet potato outside the traditional presentation. I'll get something with sweet potato cause it sounds interesting and good, then think "meh..." when I get it.
I avoided sweet potato for a looooooong time, until one day I tried sweet potato fries. Man oh man, they were gooooooood.
 
I like squash. Roasted acorn squash, summer squash, and the weirdo spaghetti squash... I like summer squash and onion cooked in a pan with jarred curry sauce.

So, here's the real question: When are you going to eat meat? It's high time that you learn to enjoy the smell of burning meat and put that shit in your digestive tract like a well-adjusted human being. =-P

Chili tamales with sweet peas and a salad made with iceberg lettuce, Caesar dressing, and some bacon bits. Nothing special, but it hit the spot.

I had a big glass of lemonade. There's this particular brand that I can only find at Walgreens that I've become obsessed with, sipping out of the big bottle throught the day almost every day -- so long as my fridge is stocked with it.
 
Casa Ramos, the local Mexican joint in Heber. Had the pork chili Verde so I could compare it to the stuff from Los Corrales. It's not as good, but was still yummy. Bartender needs shot, my margarita tasted like it had seen tequila, maybe even up close.

Weird eating at a restaurant by myself, but today's customer gave me a hondo and told me to go get a nice dinner. So I did. 20240506_201354.jpg
 
Sirloin roast from home grown beef on the spit tonight. Going to serve some baked beans and steamed broccoli. I have cheese sauce all made if anyone wants it.View attachment 138679
Is that spit motorized or do you have to rotate it by hand? It looks incredibly delicious. Makes me want to head out to the grocery store and buy a New York strip steak for dinner tonight. I would get some broccoli and some gnocchi as well! Hmm, very tempting. I'm seriously considering it at the moment.
 
I can assure you, there were smiles at the table.
No sauces needed. Just a little butter on the broccoli.
My grandma and grandpa on my mom's side had a large patio on the back of their old adobe style house they enclosed. It kind of became the family room.. it had a wonderful brick bbq with a chimney that had a spit set up. Big ol black and white TV watching Disney, Bonanza, Wild Kingdom and Lawrence Welk over there. Kids changing channels for grandpa. KaChunk. Back yard was a childs delight with an L shaped barn and surrounded by Orange orchard. El Rancho Scharp. Grapes shaded walk ways and the kitchen, wraped around arbors grandpa had erected with stout timbers. Grandma would harvest them and make jelly with us kids. I'd pick lugs of oranges and sell them. Play in the trees and build tree houses. Flood irrigation made for many a mud fest. Hose off out side and shower off before dinner.
Grandma would occassionally roast a good size beef roast on the spit and the family would sit down to a wonderful meal with some mashed potatoes and such. Lots of little go with items grandma made. Pickled beets, bread and butter pickles, veggies from the garden.
Brownies or pies for dessert.
Cooking that roast last night is a nice revisit to those times.
 
Can of Dinty Moore beef stew. Never had it before and bought it on a whim today. It's alright. I was hoping it would be similar to my mother's, but not really. I might get it again, but I could go the rest of my life without it.
