The RIP Thread...

Weird as he was, he still was an enormously talented singer, dancer, and performer. And he did a lot for sick children, which most people discount because of the child molestation charges, which he was acquitted for in a court of law.

The DA of Santa Barbara County lost his job because he didn't convict Michael Jackson. Sorry Brian this is my last post about this. I swear.:)

I agree with Chuckster on this one. I feel sad in his passing because of what he was and what he became. He started out as such a beautiful and talented young kid and became a sad cartoon of a person. He was a sick by product of our pop culture. We love for people to rise from our ranks and become stars. We also like to see them properly punished for presuming that they are somehow better than us. We feed on the young and talented and spit them out deeply damaged shells of their former selves. How any kid ever survives fame in our culture without becoming a mess is beyond me. They are the exceptions and not the rule. I try my hardest not to feed at the trough unhealthy celebrity curiosity. I expect that we'll have days and days now of a perverse feeding frenzy where people who are less curious about the well being of their family members in different towns, will be glued to their sets sifting through every crumb of salacious Michael Jackson info the media throws in their bowl. I chose to remember the talented young man who entertained me and my youth and lament his passing years ago.

Before things got weird.

well said Devon, I agree, although I am not as old as you I will remember the good parts, not the silly media driven nonsense.

When anyone tries to hold on to the past, the former glory and achievements in some bubble which contains themselves, there is also some dark cloud of falsity, defeat, and possible destruction, hovering not too far above. I don't think that Michael did much in the way of creative achievement for many a year, yet when he announced his upcoming performance in Great Britain, the sign on the podium had, "The King of Pop", written above his name. That sort of strained groping for a certain notoriety, seems pointless and ludicrous, in terms of showing an appreciation of the heights that can be reached with the gift of talent combined with hard work, the wisdom in respecting it, in part due to it's fragility.

Maybe not taking it seriously and considering it all a big joke, lets you off the hook ...?

It would seem that if ever there was anyone in the limelight of notoriety and fortune, who might of been able to get a handle on it, it would have been that guy, experiencing it from such a young age. In which case, he might have left a more powerful and graceful legacy of achievement and inspiration, and a lesser one of cancelled checks and being ravaged by the media.

Not putting him down, just thinking about the what could have been.

Thing is, life isn't fragile, it's resilient as hell.

It gets fragile when you really just don't care about living anymore. I don't how he could've liked being alive after all the shit that happened.

+ oweing about 400 Million...

I'm bummed about MJ though. Part of my childhood is dead.

My brother made this.

He was getting sued up to the bitter end. Something about not performing with his family.

Can you sue an estate? If so, he could end up being one of the rare people who ends up owing more in death, than he did in life.

I think you can but usually if there is nothing there then no. But if there is some insurance or something like that.

The Billy Mays death seems to be similar to Natascha Richardson. Just goes to show that no matter how minor a head injury seems. You have to get yourself checked out.

He was cool.
