Me dicking around. I messed up and cut the Jack seat a bit too big. Had to insert a shim to get it over.

I worry the hinges on my brittle trees might break before the COG was shifted sufficiently

Oh yeah, not so much currently but soon it can be awful. Really depends on where you are though.

Based on my experience on the internet, big cedar likes to split. Prolly hard to carve a totem…

Been there many times. Usually the bugs aren't bad around the towns for some reason. The exception might be the noseeums when you are weed whacking.

I had the first one I cut split pretty badly along the bark seams. I can't risk it on these trees so all the rest got the chain wrap.

We stayed at the upper power plant house that isn't there any more. If the dam broke I don't think you would have enough time to get up the hill fast enough. Not sure if thats why they tore it down. My ex's sister worked for the power company. Have you hiked up to the dam?

I haven't done that hike. I've done some other ones. Juneau has a nice trail system, mostly on Forest Service lands.

Definitely something to consider. Red cedar isn't a strong hinging wood.

Thanks! Most of the tree was picked butt heavy and vertical but two were picked horizontally. It’s a little deceptive from my pics but they were plenty butt heavy.
