I have a Norway maple 4’ from a hickory. It’s forcing the hickory to grow at an angle towards the house to a degree and will out compete it for space. This species of maple is considered invasive in this area, I believe. I don’t like to remove trees for no reason but I think it’s wise in this case to allow the hickory to flourish. What sayeth thou?

Norway maple's a pretty meh tree in general, but a wooded setting is the worst application imo. They're best as a yard tree where they can spread wide. In a woods they grow tall and ungainly while throwing seeds everywhere that won't be mowed cause it's in a woods. If neglected, you can end up with a virtual monoculture of Norway maple. My first inclination would be using it to play. torture it by cutting and/or bending it in weird shapes to see what happens. Remove later. I'd take a hickory over a maple every time.

There’s a few back there. I’ll probably leave the ones that aren’t too close to anything native….. for now.

I’ll torture it with my spurs, chainsaws, and silky 😜
