I believe that just about every one here works with other people, at least from time to time. I'd be interested in reading your comments about them. Maybe get if off your chest if you have to. :|: Praise is a good thing too.

I'll start if off, but kind of sappy in a way....

I've never once seen any of my co-workers slack it, it's get it done from the get go all day long...and I seriously mean that. Been together with the main guys for a number of years, and keeping up can sometimes be demanding. Different personalities, but all very pleasant people, good for a joke frequently, and I do believe that everyone enjoys every one else's company. I felt a bit of minor friction with one guy for awhile, but it's past now. The crane guy on his jobs can be a little motherly about how you do things sometimes, but no big deal.

I have two guys that work for me and they are like family to me. They work hard and we all have fun while making money. They have been with me for a couple years and I don't have anything bad to say about them.

It must be a Jap thang

I bet fiddy cents you're the only person here that can (the never once part) say that!!!

yup mb
different work ethics
ive worked with a wide array of folks, from the illegals from mexico
and the other southern countries, honduras, el salvador, etc
some good some bad, some id love to have a citizens more than my own people
and some are p o s aztec warrior types
that start trouble
the white lazy long hairs that ditch work to surf
the ex cons, that have to miss a day a week for parole
the skin heads
the loggers
the indians......i only trust a few of them
dale and gary my fallers
and a couple fella's out in yurok land, but mostly i dont trust them for chit

almost had to cut 1 once..seriously...thought i'd have to kill him...cause id mentioned he was a cull, and that we finally found him a job, a pre flagger for the flagger
he was worthless, and attacked me after he heard it, i was in my boom truck eating lunch out in yurok lands
and he hopped into the truck and when he swung at me, i stuck him to the windshield and closed his windpipe with my thumb
my other hand in my lunch sack on my straight blade, unsheathed ,ready to take an eye all the way to the mouth
when keg super..his real name
grabbed that sob by the feet and drug him out of the truck
and told him to go cry to the foreman
who laughed at him
he kept wanting to fight, and i was warned that he was trying to bring several people up to deal with me
well one showed up before them
i was sharpening chippers, and was carrying a small tin can with me
he asked whats that
i said insurance, i figure if he comes with multiple people, i'll torch 1 off
so youll have bigger problems than me...your pals on fire
do you still want to fight or put your friend out
they decided to leave me alone
i started openly carrying
and just stayed with my boom truck
i dont trust indians especially on the res

ive had crews that were great, barely had to speak, everyone knew each others moves
ground men that could tension lines properly on ld's
guys that watch your line angles, and make sure your lines are clear from each other

i believe different ethnic groups have different ethics and values
and youre lucky if youre on a good crew with men that are like brothers, instaed of enemies

When I was running crews my motto was 'work, walk or fight.' Ha. That shit wouldn't fly, nowadays.

But I sure hate a lazy bastard.

I think it's just human nature for some to be lazy bastards .To some it's a game ,others a sense of entitlement .

Protectionism through being kin folk to the boss ,ethnicity perhaps ,union protection perhaps ..Never the less you just have to deal it , like it or not in most situations .

Oh sure you all could retort that because most are self employed or work for smaller companies .However in spite of what the feelings are not all large companies are staffed with 100 percent slackers but I think the percentage is higher .That's just a fact .

I bet fiddy cents you're the only person here that can (the never once part) say that!!!

I can say that about one guy but not the other one. Don never stops, we've been working together off and on for just under a year... asked me if it was OK to make a phone call the other day... while I was on the ground packing up! Solid, just hard to schedule right now.

I can say that, too.
Richard is like that. he'll work anybody into the ground. I can't recall him ever giving in to tiredness.

Of course he'll get old like the rest of us, too and slow down somewhat.

I am the youngest guy on the crew I work with most of the time, and I have a "LETS GET IT!" attitude. I go all day with just a coffee in the morning. Every once in a while I will get a few chips in between set ups, but not often. This little crew works hard, but there is room for some inprovment. Really some of it is not even their fault, since they have to hand load most of the time. Last job I worked with them we had three regular sized pines that I reached with one set-up. I couldnt sit up in the bucket waiting for them to get the limbs up, so I would cut five or six limbs come down and cut and drag. Back up cut and drag. The whole problum is there is only one guy on the trailer and he can't keep up with three people handing him limbs to stack on the trailer.
It is frustrating working most jobs like that! I wish he would impliment the big a$$ dump trailer and that knee busting tractor more often!

Or perhaps even a chipper. I did the trailer stacking thing for years and it simply does not make sense if you're doing this stuff full time.

I like chippers.....He dose not. I know for a fact that we would have banged that job out if we had one! He has closed his mind and this is the only way he is going to do tree work for the short time he plans to do it. Hes had this thing going for 28 years. I hope that I never close my mind!

Cool post, TTG. Keg Super?? Yeah, that's a name!

I work with my wife, the guys we have had working with us usually can't keep up with her! Thats all I'm gonna say.:)

People I work with...

Hmm...

PT job, theres one self proclaimed asshole, can walk by you for weeks without saying anything, he's always trying to poke into your business, even though he's not on my crew, he recently had a problem with Doug and I not taking our unpaid 30 minute lunch, since there are times where we have a lot to do, or a lot of driving, instead of sitting down we'll just eat on the run, he thought it was his business, boss man told him to zip it and worry about himself, of course I had something to say too, which put him in his place and he instantly was stunned :D

Another guy, older, all he does is bitch. leave then you idiot! i'm tired of going in there with negativity off the bat

Doug, my groundsman/helper, hard worker, we get shit done

My own work it's nice to surround myself with hand picked helpers. occasionaly Greg works and is like my clone, cares for everything, clean, hard worker

My hunnies little bro is OK, he forgets what's next, but never complains

the new guy I am working with, he's another clone of myself, knows the next move as he is also a climber, works hard, trust worthy, yet grubby on the outside

Brendon didnt you work with your bro for awhile? I am doing that now just cause its kinda slow but I am just about ready to go back to hired help and hope I can keep em around! Just a different feel to a job when its family, not always for the better.

Once had a "clone" that you speak of and we made alot of money together and had fun. He had some probs in other areas of life and up and decided no more tree work, was sort of a "loose cannon" type I wasnt too suprised but he worked like no other.

Ya.

It worked well in the beginning when we traded hours, then I got tired of the tennis elbow from digging post holes for fences, his attitude, tardiness, and the fact that he owes me money from over three years ago yet still finds the money to buy himself nice things and go on vacation.

There, I said it. :|:

Now I work PT as the "foreman" (I don't like the title) three days a week for someone, fill the rest with my own.

There are days I can't say TY enough.. There are days the brush and wood flow like water on glass. There are days the rope runs awesome and comes right back up in my hand for the next cut.
Then there are days I want to take a piece of hickory to some head(s).
But we all have days .......:|:

I gotta give Ben some props. He's come in with a little bit of experience about 14 months ago. Stays on top of stuff as best he can, works hard, double checks most of the time when he's not sure of things, so that they do go right. Positive attitude. Safe. He's learned a lot in this time, and I feel like I got lucky finding him through an old employee, another Ben, who was leaving town.
