Cam doing his thing. I kinda pushed him to do it though. We had another tree earlier that was out of reach with the elevator to safely take the top and while they kept going back and forth on how to do it, I put my gear on and did it. We ended the day after he took this top. Playing rock...

@Bodean Try offsetting the porty a little more to the side of the spar. I remember Reg saying something about making sure the devices are out of plumb from each other. Of course if the piece bounces around it’s bound to rotate the ring a bit. What’s funny is I had this happen with the...

It’s a gas storage field line. 1500lbs roughly. They will be hydro testing them this summer and replacing some valves and headers.

Yes. All those sheds are on the pipeline and so is that damn fence. I’m pretty sure they rubbed the line with the post. As much as it would please me, I’m not allowed to smash anything. Also the view looking at those sheds was done by another crew. We made the connection today and will be done...

Ok the line was installed in 1958 and it’s most likely a tar wrapped line. Honestly it’s because I asked a new guy to grab a few wedges and he brought all these. So I used them just for fun. I also showed the guys how using multiple wedges makes lifting much easier since they all share the...

No idea. These lines were installed before the houses. I’m not sure but I believe this is a bare steel line which means it’s been there forever and a day. I’ll ask our inspectors tomorrow about the installation date.

Just making messes and cleaning them up. Hopefully the weather cooperates for the rest of the week and I can get out of these backyards. This oak stump is actually over top of a high pressure line. How did they let it get this way? Sheds and fences all sitting on the line. What a PITA

To quote Willie when I questioned how much use a bucket truck gets with those tall Oregon trees “ All trees start from the ground”

Yes please elaborate. Are you keeping rakers high every so many teeth so it doesn’t take a bite?

@Treeaddict With those multi stemmed trees I drop perpendicular to the seam if I can. Take out each one individually if needed and then a stump cut. Sometimes I’ll just ream the kerf if I feel it binding up. If the saw is cutting a bit crooked I’ll ream it as well. Helps keep it close to straight.

It’s not easy to get a good level cut with those longer bars. I know the 36” bar I have will bow easily when on a horizontal cut. It doesn’t take but a few ounces of pressure on the saw in the wrong direction and you end up with an ugly cut. Silver maple seems to amplify those cuts. I can’t see...

I like that set up Rajan. I still dream of having a spider lift in my arsenal some day. Was a good day. Cloud covered and colder than yesterday, but no wind. We got a lot done. The bank was a bit steeper than we anticipated so made things a challenge. Had to plan out how to stage loads along...

@Burnham. I agree that it looks bad B. The sling that choked to the left should have been “dressed” better. Sling rating in that configuration was more than the load for each one and the load was balanced on both. I also pretensioned before the cut to well over the weight so I saw it as “ok”...

A couple of big pin oaks in absolutely dumb locations. Wish I would’ve gotten the before pics. We had six loads of chips in the last two days and three grapple truck loads of wood.

Silver maple for yesterday morning. Had some chipper issues to start it off but went well. Why we have distributor caps on equipment in 2024 is beyond me. Hopefully the mech gets a new one on today. We covered it overnight just in case Then a white oak and hickory removal behind a gas well for...

Different kind of rigging than the webbing slings. These you tie on allowing for much better stabilization of the pick. Spider leg balancing is the term I was taught but I think they’ve changed the name since then. I had a set spliced out of t-rex but the tags came off with the first use...
