Welders? Any welders on this site?

From what little I've seen of them, they are hit and miss, some people love them, others think they are junk. I've been tempted with the prices, but it really seems like a roll of the dice so I've passed on them.

Welders? Any welders on this site?

Last I checked parts were starting to dry up on those Onan’s. They’re great engines, like the Wisconsin’s, but useless if you can’t get parts for them.

That is no joke! I still want a Bridgeport and a 9”x30”, or so, lathe myself. And a lift, and.......

Great points, again, I wasn’t trying to be shitty towards anyone, just going off personal experience. Thank you for a very informative post, Kyle.

Welders? Any welders on this site?

I gots in lots of trouble for saying something similar to that years ago, Bob. A machine shop I was working at was clambering for “warm bodies” and wanted to look at tech schools. I laughed and said “People coming out of tech schools can’t machine their way out of a wet paper bag!” DAMN! The...

Welders? Any welders on this site?

Look and see if there are any old Forney welders in your area, Justin. They are tanks and most people think they aren’t worth much, really wish I’d have kept my last one, but with my Hobart champion 10k, it was hard to justify both. Now that I’m older, it’d be nice to be able to weld with the...

Welders? Any welders on this site?

I've used a Century and a couple of the HF special wire feeds, the duty cycle on them sucked! Weld ten min, wait 20 to be able to use it again! I've never timed out my Miller. Truly a better quality machine, even for a light duty unit.

Welders? Any welders on this site?

Good to know, Wally, thanks! That's exactly what he always told me, "It's either going to work, or it's going to blow out, but it's broken and useless now!" I helped him do an exhaust manifold once, that one we heated with a torch, welded, heated, welded then brought down slowly. But everything...

Argon 75/25 mix and regular steel wire. Nothing fancy about it at all.

Welders? Any welders on this site?

A guy I used to work with taught me a bit about cast and I've had really good luck with it so far, maybe I've been lucky? I've tried pre and post heating for welding, I've tried using cast rod on an arc welder, all of these with minimal success. Best luck I've had is to gouge it with a grinder...

Welders? Any welders on this site?

I've used the Thermal Arc plasma torches and loved them! Great build quality and they just worked! Wish I could afford one for myself! If money is an issue, as I'm sure it is, look into the Hobart's as well, they own Miller and the machines are made on the same lines, with some lesser quality...
