If spalted wood goes a little too far toward punky it is difficult to work and finish. I didn’t realize you were looking for an aid in sanding. I thought you were looking for an ultimate finish. Not really sure what to use to firm it up for better sanding I’ve had mixed results with different...

Mike and John, Since you are close if either of you would like that steel table base across from the new cabinets in this photo - it is free to good home. It has a top, but it’s just a piece of chip board, but I know this fellow ‘treeaddict’ who has a mess of slabs ready for a base!! 🤣

Mike, I wish! That is my friend Chuck’s shop. We are finishing his base cabinets. Then we’ll start on mine. His shop was a 16 x 20 ft, old outbuilding. The Amish came in and expanded it to appx 40 x 60 feet. My shop is 24 x 30 feet. When he had his shop enlarged they built right up to and under...

An old-timer told me to, "Use the 'poor-man's' ebony", better known as satin-finish black Rust-O-Leum. Thinly applied you still see the grain pattern, and it lasts quite well. The window trim squares are three years old now, and no issues.

A trick a friend showed me years ago: I don't eat at fast food 'restaurants', but I do stop at Burger King once or twice a year and pick up a few of their over-sized plastic straws. They are great to slide along a joint and scoop up squeeze out (especially at a 90 degree joint), as they deform...

I saw that in another woodworking forum... a bit wild for my taste, but what workmanship! Met with a friend this morning who will bring his crew in to do the foundation (ICF) for my new wood shop and an addition to the house. This afternoon an excavator comes by to look at the job. I took two...
